There could be a faulty temperature sender or the connections can be dirty in the plug that goes on it clean it first and see what happens if this doesn't work buy a new one if that doesn't work you might not have a thermostat installed and the gauge stays down and only sometimes raises a little then drops down again

SOURCE: How do I change the shift gear bulb in a 1992

1.- Remove the rear part of the console. There are 2 bolts inside of the box compartment, they are under a felt.2. Remove the black plastic trim around the shift. It is clamped. You can use your fingers tips by inserting them around the inside cut out of the trim, rear side, lift the trim.
3. Remove a screw that holds the front part of the console at the drivers side. It is located under the steering wheel.
4. Then strecht out side way this front console as much as you can in oder to have space and reach the bulb. You may also have to remove some of the carpet. See picture
You can not see the bulb, so you have to use your fingers to fill it by following the wires up to the bulb socket.
5. Once you have touch the socket, hold it with you fingers and make a 1/4 turn to loose it and then bring it out to remove the bulb.

SOURCE: ICANT GET HEAT IN MY 1992 TOYOTA PASEO. I HAVE

Maybe the heater core is blocked.....try using the water hose to force water thru it. You will need to take BOTH lines loose from the heater core..water should come out fast....Be careful and go slow, don't break the necks of the core !!!

Temperature gauge doesnt work

start by checking the conector and sensor termilas for corrosion, if no rust found have some one inside looking over your gage wile you ground conector with a jumper and t pin for few seconds if gage goes up or moves it is good then you have a faulty sensor. (do not ground it for to long just need to verify its circuit)
good luck

When the weather is cold, while driving normally, the RPM will just automatically goes up but when the weather is warm, the car has no problem. is there a thermostat or temperature gauge in the car?

Sounds like a faulty temp sensor, giving a false signal to the cold start fuel injector. Normally at start up this will be obvious in a higher tickover rpm than when in warm weather. If it is doing it when driving along then you temp sensor could well be faulty, or possibly the injector itself,a bit like a carburettor choke on an old car.

First thing in the (cold) mornings heater wont work. water gauge flux's up and down weird . then about 20 mins into driving its warms up

Your engine coolant is what your heater gets the heat from. You need to start your car and let it warm up for awhile before any heat will come. This is how most cars heaters work. Yours sounds like it is working fine; most cars take a little while to warm up.

Hope this helps!

Shifting problem with Toyota Paseo

The throttle position switch has some effect on shifting but should effect both hot and cold. It is normal for Toyota vehicles to lock out the overdrive upshift (3rd to 4th gears) until coolant temperature reaches approx 180 degrees f.
