Have the same problem in our 2002 Spectra. The bad news we received was that in 2002 Kia put some not so good engine blocks in that allowed the crank keeper key to "hog-out" it's slot. This allows the crank to shift a little in timing, which makes cam sensor error and make check engine light come on. Even with a new sensor, it will happen. Our mechanic's best advise was to drive it, local only, until it finally gives way, then find used engine, either newer or older. The only year it would appear to affect is 2002. If your mechanic tears the engine down as though changing timing belt, he or she should be able to see if this is the case.
I called Kia about my check engine light and I told them my mechanic read the computer and it says 02 sensor. She told me Kia does not sell out there codes to the computer in our cars and that I would have to take it to a Kia repair shop to get the correct reading form the computer
If the vehicle is running ok then u must have a problem with the emissions . U will be req to plug your vehicle into a fault code reader to determine the fault usually it is a oxygen sensor which is located b4 and after the catalyst
take it to an auto parts store, they will check it for free, advanced auto, auto zone, etc. etc. get a print out of your code and possible solutions and troble shooting tips
well if you mean iat it is part of the masflow air sensor system witch is on the air intake system may be in witch is hooked to the air cleaner box should round tube with wires going to it any way the code you posted is not right hope this helps
There are over 100 things (and yes the gas cap is one) that will turn on a CEL, run a trouble code test, Kragen and Auto Zone do it for free as well as other chain stores like them.
Ok I think you meant code P0171, this means the fuel trim is always lean, you need to check for a engine vacum leak, maybe a cut or damaged PCV hose or any other hose that is in the vaccum system, I have read other Kia owners (Kia Forums, you should join one) reports of this same code, most found it not to be the O2 sensor but a vacuum leak.
