Vibration starts between 65-70 mph fades in and out and is not a wheel balance problem. I have had both 2000 and 2003 devilles with the same problem. GM says cars are within acceptable limits!

Yes, and it probably is your wheel bearing. Hearing a sound like a chain dragging is classic. You may also hear a clicking noise or chain dragging noise when turning to the left or right.
Look under the car and see if the rubber boots that surround the axle near the tires are cracked and leaking grease. If so, it is almost a certainty that the bearings are bad as you have lost grease and thus lubrication to the bearings.
Good luck,

your water pump may need to be changed. have a trusted mechanic check it. the water pump is connected to the drivebelt of your 4.9 l engine, and if thats where the sound is coming from you can be pretty certain
SOURCE: vibration
Step one would be to have the tire/wheel assembly "road forced" balanced. Not a tire locations have this technology but it will definitly pinpoint or eliminate that aspect of the problem. All balances are not created equal, have the road forced.

This is your one of your axels.. they are damaged inside.. Get them removed asap it can cause major damage if it brakes loose..each axle costs about $90-100
