I have 1992 isuzu pup truck.sometimes i turn the key to crank it and there is nothing noise wize,no clicking nothing.the dash lights come on,battery is good.i turn the key another time and it cranks r

Sometimes it cranks right up.i roll it off when it dont crank the switch is on and it will crank.i go back again and it cranks with the key..i might go back later and thers nothing.i have power cause the dash lights,horn everything works the switch don't engage the starter,then it will..

You need an ignition switch. One way to figure it out is to turn the key to engage the starter, quickly........over and over, the "catch and start" will happen with no change and suddenly, its engaged. Or, keep the key in the START position, don't let up on it and hit the steering column with your fist, or the steering wheel. It may just be shorting out.

check battery cables & terminals for tightness & corrosion.also check at starter.check starter bolts & actual starter for looseness.if no problems found your starter may be on its way out.next time it happens hit starter with hammer or heavy object if it starts right up get ready to replace it.good luck

Sounds to me to be the ignition switch, its going bad.

It might be the battery earth ? are the dash light bright if so then check the nuts on the starter solenoid .

Dirty terminals, happens all the time. Did you have the battery tested? Or just know it's OK? Did you check the water? How about the electrolytes? Get the terminals cleaned off with a wire brush, and scrape the insides, make sure they are tight. I have replaced more batteries this week, must be the weather. One was stone dead, 5 volts and still started the car?? Couldn't believe it, good car. The other 2 were dead with 12+ volts but wouldn't start anything, both got new terminals, and both got cleaned up. NO problems. Check it out. Lastly, the solenoid in the starter could be bad if everything else checks out, whack it with a hammer while turning the key, if it jumps, you found it.

Start with the basics. Does the vehicle unlock with the remote? Does the A/C and radio work? Do you get the usual lights on the dash when you turn the key to the second position? Do you get ANY noises when you turn the key to crank the engine?
If your not getting dash lights or nothing at all from the starter the first thing you check is the battery. A battery needs somewhere between 12.6 and 13.4 volts to work at its best. Check what voltage is there and work on from that.
If you have full voltage listen to the car as you turn the key. That will give clues as to what the reason could be for the power loss.

93 Geo Storm standard Transmission 1.6 Engine Lately I have to push start it Replaced ignition switch Checked all the fuses Starters good Help 48 disabled female

bad fuel, is it old? fuel.
needs tuneup, air cleaner and spark plugs , at least.
if the starter cranks fast and dont' start,
but does push started. that means the spark is weak
when cranking, and marginal spark plugs can do that.
this car is really (under Geo snake skins) a
an Isuzu Impulse
and Isuzu is defunct there too. (double bad)

now my real guess......analysis...
im not sure your order stated.
the engine would not crank over with a key before the new switch or after?
and "starters good", does that mean , it still fails to crank start with key
but the hot wiring of starter does?
try this:
tell use what happens when you turn the key, is best.
I turn the key, and i get the dash board to light up,
lots of lights. and the CEL LaMP GLOWS.
the CEL lamp, means the ENGINE brain is alive.
then you turn the key to cranks (start) position.

nothing happens.
it only clicks
it cranks slowly,
it cranks fast, just like a new car does. fast. cranking.

1,2,3,4.?

and does jumper cable starts work>?
if this works , your battery is low. , discharged or dead, or bad.
if the battery keeps going low, its bad, or the alternator fails to charge the battery, or you have phantom drains , discharging it as you sleep.

my guess, (based on most common)
is #3, slow cranks, and spark plugs are long since gone.(fouled and gaps no longer in spec>)

When I have such a problem with my Toyota pickup, I install a button in dash to crank the motor over. Hot wire from the switch on to the button, then from the button to the starter activating wire. My Toy doesn't do this every time, but when it won't crank I just reach down and flip the spring center switch, same as a button, and she cranks and fires up. This is easier than replacing a bunch of stuff that may not be bad or is impossible to get to.

your battery isnt holding enough charge to crank the starter.thats what the clicking is. try charging you battery for a good 8-10 hours, if it still does the same thing you'll need a new battery.

1992 Lincoln TC Wont Start

Your battery seems to be dead. The lights on the dash need almost nothing to light up but once you try to crank it up - the starter takes a ton of voltage and the lights on your dash die.
Have you tried to start the car with the door open?
When the door is open the dome light is on, and when you try to start the car it goes off, right?
If your answer to the last question is "YES" - have your car battery changed.
