I have a 1997 dodge neon and the speedometer does not work

I have a 1997 dodge neon and the speedometer does not move anymore, but the gas gauge and temperature gauge does work, but the odometer is not turning over either. How can this be fixed?

Need to access the PCM with a scan tool and see if the vehicle speed sensor is still working. If it is, the problem is most likely in the instrument cluster and a junkyard part would be a good solution. If you have no VSS operation, that's your problem.

Where is the speedometer sensor

I have seen several neons with this issue. The instruments will stop working on ocassion or all together. I have found that the instrument cluster or wiring connector to the cluster can become slightly loose causing the speedometer to stop working. I would recommend putting slight inward pressure on the cluster when this happens to see if it has any effect. If the speedometer starts working I would advise turning your attention to the plug on the back side of the cluster to remove the slight movement that the plug mount allows.

Speedometer of 2003 dodge neon does not work and gas gauge is jumpy. replaced 2 input and output vss sensors and still won't work. no codes show on scanner

some of these have had problems with the dash assembly causing alot of problems with gauges and lights and speedometers.if there are no codes in the computer and weren`t any before you replaced the vss sensors then you spent money you didn`t need to.

1996 neon the speedometer and the fuel gage do not work also the backup lights do not work help

I have a similar issue with my 1997 Neon. My fuel gauge works, but my speedometer only works when it feels like it (jumps and then drops to zero) and once my whole cluster didn't come on. I've found this (http://forums.neons.org/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=118450) that I'm going to try when I get a soldering iron. Also I just discovered my reverse lights don't work either and it's not the bulbs, my best guess is the Neutral Safety Switch because I can start my car in drive and reverse.

pls take your car to the nearest service center, check the speedometer cable installed..it should have either been destroyed or it should have a loose contact..for second problem ask the service personnel to check the connections are tight enough with preferred torque
