what led up to the no start

Had the same issue on my 2003 2500. Turned out to be the fuel control actuator on the back of thr cp3 injection pump. Buy from Genosgarage.com for about $100. dealer wants double that for the exact same Bosch part. Removes with three torx screws after you remove wire connector.

most likely its the throttle body sludged up . clean the throttle body and butterfly . this will only help if there is an idling problem . ck for codes and ck freeze frame data for more help

Yes your corect,,,, i would look at the TPS, If there was more things going on i would look into the transmission, And you kno what a lot of people make this error and after spending 4 grand on a transmision it still does it,Yikes!,,,,,,,,,,, I inclosed a link you can read where i wrie at that will give you tips and tricks on the diesel and the driveline. all i can tell you is that as long as you dont go below 4 psi you should not starve injection pump, this is a minimum psi though., 10-13 psi is average on my 2002 at service port.

The check valve on the fuel line at the filter housing may be leaking back not maintaining pressure when the engine is not running.

transfer case needs to be taken off and brought to a transmission specialist. I had the same problem with my 99 2500 diesel, and being a transmission specialist myself, i diagnosed that the shift forks and bearings and syncro's in my transfer case had failed and after figuring out how much each part would cost on my rebuild, it was cheaper to buy a brand new transfer case out of zumbrota transmission parts out of Minnesota. The transfer case costed me $995 dollars and my parts added up over $1,100 dollars.
