Sound like a bad throttle position sensor or TPS.

SOURCE: at idle engine surge's up and down usually a few hundred RPM's

DS THIS PROCEDURE
Here are some of the causes of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

SOURCE: 1998 camry 5sfe engine, surging at idle

Check for air leaks in the vacuum pipes in and around the inlet manifold, they have a habit if going brittle and splitting.
Another possibility is the temp sender , if the ecu thinks the engine is too cold it will compensate causing the engine to " hunt". This can be something as simple as a worn radiator cap seal letting air into the cooling system and tricking the sensor.
Hope this helps, Marshall

Vacuum hose diagram

To find a small vacuum leak, let the engine idle, spray around the vac and induction area with carb cleaner or WD40 and listen for a change in the engine note/speed. This should narrow the search area. Good Luck

2004 hyundai accent stalling

This problem is likely caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle blade valve, follow the procedure for cleaning them Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (it is made by CRC) from the local auto parts store, NEVER USE CARB CLEANING SPRAY, IT DESTROYS THE ANTI-STICK TEFLON COATING, spray it into the air intake through the throttle body of the engine until you have used about half the can, you will need to hold the idle up while you do this, it will try to stall, after this shut the engine down and disconnect the Negative (-) battery cable for 5 minutes. The intake is now clean, if you continue to have the idle speed control problems you may need to seek the help of a professionalhe mess up.

1999 hyundai accent gl bogs down when i put in gear just replaced coil pack sparkplugs and wires any ideas

Without actually looking at the vehicle, it's difficult to say. The 1999 accent was equipped with an idle speed conrol actuator (common issue) or there may be a vacuum leak at the surge tank or the problem may be something electrical. Without a proper inspection/diagnosis of engine management components, it could be anyone's guess. Valve timing could be 'out', poor cylinder compression, restricted intake air flow, poor quality fuel/gasoline, restriction in the exhaust system, low fuel pressure, and the list goes on and on.

Best advice. Have a qualified Hyundai Service Technician properly diagnose your vehicle.

2002 accent stalls and has a rough idle

During rough idling, when the clutch is released due to high rpm of the engine, the engine may stalls. Another possible reason due to quick release of clutch pedals.

First tune the idling of the engine. Look for the cleaness of the air filter, Fuel lines are clear for free flow. Check the spark plugs for free from carbons and gaps are maintained correctly.

When slowing down the car change to appropriate gears and netural the gears when about to stop.

There a lot of cuses for this but you need to scan the vehicule before to know what sensor is having troubles, if is too much expensive the scan in your city consider to buy one. I see in ebay a lot of types of OBD2 scanners for $25-30!
