In most newer cars the starter fuse is a fusible link or in a fuse panel under the hood. Fusible links are often difficult to find because they look like a barely noticeable bump in the wire. The starter relay/solenoid is typically an assembly that is part of the starter motor.

SOURCE: is it the starter??

If the engine turns over but fails to start, the starter is NOT the problem. Turning the engine over is all the starter is supposed to do. You need to look for a problem with fuel delivery or ignition (spark) - anything from the pump in the tank, the fuel filter, lines, injectors, spark plugs, ignition wires, electronic ignition system to electronic controls. PS. The engine turning over means the battery is OK too.

SOURCE: locate bolts to remove the strater of 1996 dodge caravan

Almost all starters have ears with holds in them that bolts go through to threaded holes in the bell housing. Find the starter and look around the end without the wires for the bolts.

I have a 1991 jeep yj - when I turn the key everything powers up as it is suppose to - but the engine does not crank ( I do not hear the strater clicking or anything) I thought it might be the ignition key...

i had one do the same thing, the wire ends at the starter were frayed and the starter had a drag in it, put new ends on starter and replaced the solinod and it worked fine, there is also a fuse that will stop the ignition from working , worth a look to see if its loose or bad contact.

Turn Key and nothing but lights and radio are fine. No sound of cranking over, is it the strater?

Hello: If the security light is NOT blinking when you hold the key in the start position then it could be the starter, If no security light blinking have a helper hold the key in the start position and the another person hit the starter with a hammer, medium blow, if car starts you have a failed starter. If security light is blinking with key in start then you have a immobilizer problem and you will need the failure code so you will know where to start your diagnosis.

Power at battery good. power to starte solenoid good, strater tested good. Wont turn over(start cranking)

Sounds like the solinoid is bad. The small wire going to the solinoid should have battery voltage going to it when the key is in the start position. If it does your solinoid is bad. If it doesent your key swith is bad or the wire going to the solinoid is cut somewher between the switch and the solinoid

My 87 conquest does nothing when i try to start. what happens when the starter relay is bad, will the starter even turn over

no nothing will happen, if you listen for a clicking sound in the fuse box area when you turn the ignition on that meens the realy is ok, then it will possibly be a strater solinoid fault, you can try getting someone to turn the ignition over and at the same time tap the starter, this may start the solinoid off and turn the starter, make sure battery it 100% charged first hope this helps

Will not start battery is good

have starter checked, may be bad, also you can try tapping on starter while someone holds the key in the crank position, tap with a hammer lightly sometime that gets starter going, to test use a test light while key is held in crank see if you get power to small wire on starter, if you get power replace strater. hope this helps.
