Have an accredited ac shop as an ac cannot produce hot air only cold air so that means that the ac is not working (leaks low on gas etc). The hot air is from the heater in the car and the smell is probably wire overheating or the resistors are burning.

SOURCE: 2002 Chrysler Town & Country air conditioner

How do you know it needed freon, without gauges its hard to know, most people add freon because its not cold and that may not be the problem, in turn they cause more damage to the system, these vans are famous for leaks.check all the fuses, then jump the low preasure cycling switch and see if compressor truns on,youll need to look at the clutch to see it turn, then the next step is to check the lowside and highside preasures,

SOURCE: BLOWING HOT AIR AND BURNING SMELL IN VAN, I WENT

you may have lost the main drive belt under the hood, serpentine belt} that would explain the hot air coming from vents,is it overheating? look to insure the drive belts on,with engine off. if the drive belts on,you may have a locked engine component, such as altenator, power steering unit, water pump pulley, idler pulley, the only way to tell for sure is to remove the serpentine belt and hand turn each pulley to insure they turn manually. suggest you do that. the burning smell may be coming from your main{serpentine}belt trying to turn on a locked pulley. thank you for choosing fixya.com!

SOURCE: I have a 2009 Chrysler Sebring, V6 2.7. I bought a do it yourself can to recharge the air conditioner. Where is the valve to recharge the air conditioner located?

It is in the low side AC compressor hose.

Burning plastic smell when cold out run heater and fan inside car and out

Are you loosing radiator fluid. sometimes the heater core will rupture and you will smell burn odor. also check for strange rubbing sounds or screeching coming from the blower fan motor. or engine exhaust manifolds are hot when car is on, make sure nothing is leaning on them which will cause a burn odor. Any odor coming from outside will find it's way inside through the fresh air vents.

Why did my 2000 oldsmobile silhoutte front vents stpp blowing air?

The front an rear are two different systems , That why the back still works . The blower motor or the resistor under the glove box or behind burnt up . Your best bet mite be to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop.

Burning smell when I warm up the car

check to make sure you dont have anything (plastic bag, etc) burned and stuck on the exhaust, othere than that it could be a normal smell associted with the different materials getting hot, i would compare it to another like vehicle and see, could also be trapped odors in the heater core caused by a previous smoker or bacteria growing, gm sells an odor elimnator that works pretty well

I own a 1998 plymouth voyger 3.0 engine, when i turn the cabin fan motor both using ac or heat, an unpleasant odor comes out of the vent openings. I have tried over the counter ''odor away'' type product...

Hi, If I knew more of what kind of an odor you smell might help? Does it have any effect on the power of the blower motor in heat or cool as far as the speed or any noise as a bearing, burned wiring smell? I am just trying to nail down possibly a problem in the motor. If not, what I think may have happened if it is like a dead rodent smell, something may have crawled in around the blower wheel and past away if this is the kind of smell you have. This motor is the same for both heat and cool. If you want to get down to the blower motor, you will need to go both from under the dash and firewall to excess the motor. If it is a dead mouse lets say, it is either going in to find it which it could even be in any one of the air vents?? May be hard to locate it. If its the motor windings going out, you will know this smell as it would be like burned electrical wiring and the motor would be giving you problems. If this smell is more like a rodent smell, you may have to ride it out as it will in time dry completely out and go away? You have done what most all of us would do in this situation. Take a mouse for instance. They can come in from a field outside and go just about anywhere they want to in your car. If one did go up in to the enclosed air system which there are openings that they can squeeze into and die, chances are you would have to remove all of the duct work and blower housing to find it. Instead of using sweet smelling deodorants, check with a local janitorial supply house that have commercial products that they can recommend to you in this case and take care of this problem? It would be worth the time to do this, that's for sure! Something that they can blow down around the air intake under the hood that wont harm you or the system, be sure of that. I would say that either wait if its the smell I think, try the supply wholesale house, or the most time consuming and $$$ way is to remove all of the duct work and blower housing to try and find it. I hope this has been of some help to you, I'm sure it is very frustrating to have to smell this. Keep me posted on it please. Good Luck,
Sincerely,

Fishy, steam odor coming from AC vents

Forget the radiator tank. Your AC 'Condensate drain' hose is plugged up. This is a common problem. If you know where the hose comes out under the car you can ( carefully ) push a wire up it. If you're lucky it's plugged near the end by a mud-dauber wasp. If not, take it to your dealer and see if you can persuade the write-up guy to show you where the drain outlet is as a gesture of good faith. If they insist on charging you money, consider that when you buy your next car...
