Where is the white smoke coming from? Under hood? Out tail pipe? If excessive white smoke from tail pipe, suspect a head gasket failure which in turn will fill the cooling system with exhaust pressure forcing the coolant to come out of the reservoir and resulting in an overheating problem
white smoke is an indication of water/coolant in the fuel /exhaust , i'd start with getting the OBD codes read as may be lucky and its something electrical/electronic ,but i would think that the head gasket has blown , if your lucky (again) , or could be a more serious failure , check cylinder compressions to help with diagnosis
Are you saying you have smoke coming out of the tail pipe ? Or is something dripping onto the exhaust pipe and burning ? If the smoke is coming out of the tail pipe, is it blue, white, or black ?
Possibly a blown head gasket, letting coolant into the cylinders to be burned. White smoke is usually coolant burning. Have the engine's compression tested to verify.
I have an 01 Impala 3.8 engine. At first start-up white smoke is seen, smells like raw gas, and tail pipe is black as coal. Fuel milage isn't good either. Would the regulator be bad?
Hello my name is Ben. You most likely have a leaking head gasket. The gasket leak is allowing coolant into the combustion chamber which is why you see the white smoke.
If there is no loss of Coolant, which is a sign of Head gasket failure to the combustion area, which generates white smoke, I would recommend after 4000 miles of your mileage alone, a complete Service of Engine Oil and filter, AIR filter and Fuel filter.
An inexpensive way to find a recurring combustion problem, At 60k miles, the Spark plugs should still be good, but pull them anyway, just to confirm.

there is no antifreeze in my oil though
