I purchased a 2004 dodge stratus for the motor. I need to put it into my 2002 chrysler sebring. They both have the same engine codes. I have put the stratus motor into the sebring but I can't get it to fire. Seems to not have a spark.
I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup so I have had some experiences (mostly bad) with Dodge electronic ignition systems.
I have no specific knowledge about a Sebring or Stratus but as someone who has been working on cars and trucks for the better part of 40 years I'll make a guess that the computer control module in the Sebring is different than the CCM in a Stratus that is a two year newer model. Since you are dealing with engines from 2 different year models there were likely some (maybe minor) changes to the electronic ignition system over the two years. If the wiring harness connectors for the CCM in the Sebring and Stratus are identical I would move the CCM from the Stratus into the Sebring and see if the Stratus engine will then fire. Some questions to consider:
1. Was the Stratus engine running OK before you removed it from the Dodge?
2. Are you sure all electrical connections are correct (and complete) after installing the Dodge engine in the Sebring?
Yes , Some wires may not be the same so you will have to look at a wiring diagram .

The engines are basically the same. the difference is the number of holes in the reluctor ring on the flywheel. also the cam gear on the front cylinder head are different depending on if the car has a two or four plug computor. i would say that you will probly have to change the cam gear to get it to run. i have done this and it worked fine. if you take off the valve cover you will be able to see if they are different if you dont know how many plugs were on the computor on the car the engine came out of. some o4s have a two and some have a four. i think the older ones have a two. you will have to take the timing chain off if you have to change it. you should change the water pump if you do this because they do go bad and you would be right there. i would probly get a new timing chain and tensioner if i were going to do this job. dont forget, the flywheel will have either twelve or twenty four notches in the ring. they have to be what the car came with. its possible to count them with the engine installed if you remove the starter
Yes , just because it is a different model Chrysler use the same engine in all different models.
