Got a 93nissan D21 pickup the gas gauge and temp gauge work but not the speedo just replaced the speedo cable and still doesn't work any ideas??
In.93 I believe they used a cable not a speed sensor then. So your cable is most likely broken or if manual transmission the cable was possibly over tightened after the clutch was replaced
93 is a bit old. It is most likely that the gear driving the speedo cable is stripped. If I recall correctly the gear is made of a plastic compound and does tend to strip if the cable gets gunged up and becomes too tight in the housing. Test this by removing the cable from the speedo clock, and try to turn the cable by hand. If it turns, the gear is stripped. Another way to test this is to jack up one rear wheel, put the axle on a stand and start the car in gear. Look at the cable and see if it turns. If not, or if the cable turns spasmodically, the gear is stripped. Again, if I remeber correctly, the gear can be removed from the gearbox quite easily by undoing the 6mm bolt that holds the drive onto the box. The assembly containing the gear should come out quite easily.
