I cannot get behind it to see if it has a nut or is just screwed into the molding. There is no access to the other side

If i remember correctly the entire rear light assembly must be remove in order to access these bulbs. This is true if the license plate is on the trunk. If this is the case then there are nuts on the inside of the trunk that must be removed.

Unfortunately, there is no access to the back side, even after removing the entire rear light assembly. It's all sheet metal with a tiny hole in an awkward position that doesn't line up with the back of the license plate lights. My little fingers don't even fit. I guess the best I can do is either try to get something under the light cover to pry it up as I try to unscrew it or try to drill out the screws/bolts (if I can get the angle). I do not want to get pulled over a fourth time! ??

I think you are right because I cannot take off the screws either. They just turn round and round without backing out at all. I tried taking off the whole back assembly once before but couldn't get access to the bulbs. I am going to try once again. I must have missed something -- 97 LeSabre

2002 Cadillac escalade I want to remove the Rear bumper cover to get to the license plate lights assembly to add new ones.

Remove the wheels if possible.
Remove the two clips from each side (by pulling up the center).
Move the fender liner away to access and remove the 7 mm bolt that is near the corner.
Unscrew the four cargo anchors from the floor of the trunk.
Move the trim panel and remove the 4 10mm bolts.

To get to the license plate lights assembly, you can follow these steps:

Open the rear compartment lid and locate the license plate light assembly inside the trunk lid.
Above the license plate, locate four Philips head screws holding the license plate light assembly inside the trunk lid.
Remove the screws (caution: in winter, plastic is extremely fragile and can break easily).
Once the screws are off, your license light assembly is loose inside the trunk lid.

License plate bulb replacement on a 2002 Buick LeSabre I don't have screws holding the bulb assembly in place. It appears to be in place with tabs larger than the assembly holding the assembly in...

Hi, my name is John I will do my best to assist you.

The entire tail/backup lens assembly has to be removed from the trunk lid as shown in the drawing attached. There will most likely be some nut's or clip's on the assemblies mounting pins on the inside of the trunk lid.
  1. Disconnect the tail/back up lamp harness connector from the body wiring harness.
  2. Remove the tail/back up lamp assembly from the rear compartment lid.
  3. While supporting the tail/back up lamp assembly, unplug the tail/back up lamp harness grommet from the rear compartment lid and remove the tail/back up lamp from the vehicle.
  4. Remove the license plate lamp bulb from the lamp housing.
  5. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Remove & replace right turn signal bulb

The procedure is as follows:-- Working from the trunk:
1. locate the 2 retaining knobs (doohickeys that you fasten the trunk cargo net to) for the Hard plastic trunk liner near to and inside of the rear light assembly. Unscrew the knobs.
2. Pulling back the plastic liner, locate the 4 studs (threaded posts). 3 will be located vertically in a line, the fourth, outboard and lower. Using a 10mm wrench(small), remove 3 of the 4 nuts fastening the light assembly to the body. DO NOT remove the lowest nut of the 3 in a vertical line, as this does not fasten the light assembly. DON'T LOSE THE NUTS OR WASHERS.

Working from the rear of the car:
1. Hand pull the light assembly from the car body.
2. Remove bad lamp. Twist lamp socket and pull out of assembly. Pull lamp and replace with #3057.
Reassemble:
1. Test light prior to reassembly.
2. Ensure Gasket material for assembly and studs is intact, this keeps water/dust out and dampens movement (prevents rattling and increases the life of lamp).
3. Use Reverse instruction for reassembly.
-------------- The taillight/backup light/license plate light assembly is separate from the brake light/turn signal light assembly on the Buick LeSabre. No matter what rear bulb you have to replace, you must access the trunk area to do so. Open the trunk of the Buick LeSabre.Locate 7 nuts underneath the trunk lid (3 on each end of the trunk lid and 1 in the middle). Remove each one using a nut driver.Manipulate the trunk lid at chest level and gently pull the rear taillight assembly slightly away from the trunk lid.Locate the burned out bulb sockets and then remove the bulbs. Insert the new bulbs into the socket and test by turning on the lights before reassembling.Replace the tail light assembly by aligning the studs inside the predrilled holes in the trunk lid. Refasten the 7 nuts.Remove the cargo net if applicable to replace the brake and/or turn signal light.Unscrew the plastic wingnut that the cargo net is attached to. Pull back the trunk liner.Remove the 2 plastic wingnuts under the trunk liner.Pull the brake light assembly outward from the back of the LeSabre.Locate the socket of the burned out bulb and then turn counter clockwise 1/4-inch to release it from the assembly.Remove the old bulb from the socket and replace with a new one. Test the light before reassembling. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

How to replace license plate light on a 2002 buick lesabre

Hi. Remove the retaining screws from the license plate light assembly with a Phillips screwdriver. There are two screws on each side of the lens assembly.

Pull the light assembly cover down out of the way to gain access to the bulbs. Twist the bulb socket counterclockwise to remove it from the assembly and pull it straight out. Pull the bulb out of the socket.

Push the new bulb straight into the socket. Replace the bulb and socket inside the light assembly and turn it clockwise to secure it.

Replace the assembly cover and secure it with the retaining screws. Tighten the screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Turn on the lights to test your new bulbs.
Take care

Rear license plate does not work

My park avenue has star bit screws on both sides of the plate lights right at the top of the license plate holder. I just chaged them last week. I do not know what size the bit was and I am not sure your car is the same. My car looks just like the car in the picture just longer and a little bigger.
