Screechy start Yes my 2001 is doing the same thing. I had the serpentine belt replaced. It still continues. Frustrating.

do you have the 3.0L V6 engine? if yes then check for the alignment of the pulleys I changed one on my firends and it solved the issue. It only made a noise when it started.

Is the drive belt the same belt as a serpentine belt on a Mazda 626 year 2001?

Yes if you only have one belt and that is a serpentine belt then that is your drive belt. Normally a drive belt does not refer to a serpentine belt, it refers to a V belt driving only 1 or possible 2 components.

2006 grand vitara, making sudden loud screechy sound, & lost power steering, when a/c is off, power steering is restored..

Sounds like the serpentine belt is slipping and perhaps struggling to turn pullies.. this would result in horrid squealling noises especially in cold damp weather and loss of power steering ability when A/C is on

(A/C on equals extra strain on the belts grip, when turned off the A/C pulley spins freely hence less strain)

Is a "starter belt" and a "serpentine belt" the same thing???

No such thing as a "starter belt". If they are refering to the belt that routes around the alternator, part of the power supplying system...then yes. But, this is only if you have 2 seperate belts. A serpentine belt is one entire belt that routes over all of the pulleys. Easy way to check, look at your belt. If you see one, it's a serpentine. If you see two, you have accessory belts. But, you should have a serpentine belt....1 belt.

Your motor has one belt, a serpentine...

Screechy noise when starting 2001 Impala

Does this noise occur as the engine is cranking over to start, and as it just start up? It's probably the belt slipping on the pulleys. If the belt is original, or showing any cracks and splits, replace it. Keep the starter. countrycurt0
