This Jeep starts missing (chugging) at about 45 mph. What would cause that? Replaced plugs etc.

It starts chugging/missing at about 45 mph. How can I determine what is causing it?

Run the fault codes. check the serviceability of the cat converter as it may be broken inside and blocking the exhaust

SOURCE: My 2002 Jeep Wrangler shakes

Replace steering stabilizer and rotate tires every three thousand miles. Rotation is actually the most important. Took me two sets of tires, before they were worn out, to realize the problem.

SOURCE: My 03 Wrangler shakes only at 45 mph

My Death Wobble started immediately after I installed a set of Coil Spring Spacers (to lift 1.75 inches). Turned out, the DW was because while changing the height, I also lowered the CASTER angle in the front end. So, to fix it, I could have purchased a set of eccentric bolts for $50+. Instead I went out and purchased a piece of 1.5 inch flat bar for $10 from OSH. I cut out 4 1.5 inch squares. Then i drilled 7/16 inch holes centerline, but close to one side (in exactly the same place) on all for squares. I then removed the lower control arm bolts, nuts and washers. I installed these square offset washers I made so the front axle would be pushed forward (to increase the Caster angle). The toe setting changed a bit, so I reset them to about 1/8 inch toe in. After driving my Jeep, I noticed there is no more DW. The steering wheel was off center, but after 3 attempts, I have that perfectly centered. I have every intension of having the alignment checked, but not till after I find the new tires I want. If anyone is interested, I can draw out and photograph the cure and send it to you. My e-mail is bb62471(at)yahoo(dot)com.

SOURCE: Vibration while accelerating from 30 to 45 mph Jeep GrandCherokee

Not a tune up problem,
You need to have all U-joints checked out,They will give you the vibrations only while acceleration

Car is chugging a little bit at 45mph

The first thing that comes to my mind is "45 MPH"... and let me explain why.....

Your engine you said is running GREAT so a MPH is not going to effect the running of the Car but what happens @ 45 MPH you ask?

Your Torque Converter goes into Lock up.... If the Torque Converter is slipping in and out of lock up, you are going to have an irregular pulsating of the engine playing catch up.

you need to do this, try and drive the vehicle (you did not say what kind of vehicle it is), and drive it without the OVERDRIVE On...

So drive it and see if it is RPM RELATED. If there is no CHUG and you can go all the way to 55-60 without issue, Slow down below 45 and put the OD IN and accellerate and see what happens..

Is the Problem SPEED RELATED? Is it RPM Related?

If it does not happen with it OUT of OD, then what you probably have is a Torque Converter Failing...

I hope this helps

Engine missing mainly between 45 and 55 mph

I'm going to assume you have the 3.4 V6 engine which uses direct ignition with a coil on each plug.
Could be ignition or fuel related.
A weak spark/coil will allow the engine to run on all 6 cylinders at idle but miss under load, especially when going into overdrive at 45 mph. Not enough spark to jump the gap.
Same thing with low fuel pressure or dirty injectors. Not enough fuel when the engine is working hard.
Usually when you get a hard miss you will get a trouble code for the cylinder that is not giving power.
Have you changed the fuel filter in the past 12 months ?

Jeep cherokee jerks when shift into overdrive going 45 mph

If the engine has a rough idle you know you have a miss-fire or other problem with one or more cylinders.
When you shift into overdrive the engine is working harder than in normal drive because of the lower torque/RPM.
So any slight miss under normal conditions will be magnified in overdrive or with the ac on.
See if you can nail down the cause for the rough idle.
