2006 Dodge Dakota SL Quad Cab Automatic with 3.7 v6 4x4. 39,000 orig miles. It was a factory guard's patrol truck so it had a lot of stop-and-go short distance driving. It is in very good shape all around. Exterior & interior are immaculate. It test drove very well. No rattles. Ni wind noise. Looks new. Price was right so I purchased it. Problem: When I come to a relatively quick stop, the shift to first comes a little late and when it does, it is somewhat of a hard shift. My best explanation of the sound it makes as I stop is "weeeerrrrr--pause--bang". Also, if doing a rolling stop and quickly get on the gas, it is like it is in neutral, the revs come up and then it shifts to first with a bang. It is an extremely predictable pattern. I was wondering if it could be solved thru software or do we think it is most likely a physical problem in the transmission since it definitely did a ton of stop & go type driving as a factory security guard's truck ??

either repair or replace the transmission...sounds like the sensor went out
SOURCE: i have a 99 dodge 3/4 ton with an automatic...
Anything is possible but I would at least Have the trans serviced with a filter change before I chanced it. And don't let them put it on that machine that back flushes the transmission and replaces the fluid with synthetic oil. Every vehicle I have ever heard of allowing that to be done to it has ended up in the shop within 6 months for a total rebuild.

Hi, I would do a oil and filter change on the transmission. Also check the oil cooler that is free of debree. Good luck
