SOURCE: 2000 nissan xterra v6 xe 2wd auto trans quit running idling .

Well, I hate to inform you of this, but all Nissan engines except the V-6 that was used in the Quest mini-van up to 2003 are interference engines- meaning that if a valve is fully open and the corresponding piston travels to Top Dead Center (TDC), they will contact forcefully resulting in a bent valve.

I have seen this many times as most people don't want to spend the $500 to have their timing belt replaced.

Fortunately for you, Nissan cylinder head castings are built pretty strong. I have pulled the cylinder heads and replaced bent valves (be sure to "lap them in" with a good valve lapping compound) and reassembled the engines with fantastic results. Most engines have broken valve guides and valves and pistons, but Nissans typically don't break these things.

This is a very involved job and should not be attempted unless you have pretty extensive experience with the internal combustion engine, so I would recommend a trusted mechanic or, ultimately, your local dealer.

Depending on labor rate, you're looking in the ball park of $1500 for this repair.

I hope this has been helpful!!

  1. The button says, Solve It. This may not be a simple problem. The bottom line is you need 4 things to get a 4 cycle engine to run. Compression, spark, fuel/air mix AND they all have to be there at the right time. Spark can be checked by putting one of the old plugs on the head along with the plug wire. Try to start the engine and see if you see the spark. (Yes, you will probably need somebody to turn the key for you.) The compression can be checked with a compression gauge but I'll assume this vehicle ran before you made changes and it's difficult to ruin that component. Fuel can be "injected" using a squirt bottle. (Don't do this with the engine turning over) Remove the intake housing between the air filter and the throttle body. If you don't know what that means then stop reading and take your vehicle to a mechanic. Once you have access to the throttle body open the butterfly and squirt about a tablespoon of fuel into the opening. Another option is to get a can of starter fluid. Spay no more than one second from the can. Get all fuel back from the intake and see if it will start and then dies. You will need to hold the gas pedal about half way down and of course let it up if the engine starts. If it starts and then dies you have a fuel flow problem. If you don't see the spark from the first test you have a firing problem. The spark should be a solid reddish/blue color. If it's a weak yellowish color you may need a new distributor. I think the coil is built into the distributor. If you have a good looking spark, good compression, fuel and it still doesn't run then you probably have a timing problem. Enough of my two cents...

04 dodge neon showing P0325 and P0340 codes at same time.

Code 0325 is for a Knock sensor. Code 0340 is for the Cam sensor #1 if this is an engine with 2 heads and it is an indication of a single sensor on single head engines.

So if you do have a multiple hed engine, you may have removed the good sensor and left the bad sensor in the other head.

Remember to wipe the computer memory after installing new parts.

My 2003 Nissan Frontier stalled and will not crank up when I. Scanned it the P0325 and P0340 codes appeared. How do I fix this?

I would say that the P0340 is causing your no start problem.....This is a cam sensor code......The cam sensor is in the distributor and is not servicable.....I would recommend taking it to a repair shop to properly diagnose the problem before replacing the distributor.

Nissan quest 1999 engine light codes P0325 & P1105 WHAT DO THESE CODES MEAN

P0325 is for the knock sensor.

P1105 is for the manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP).

In either case diagnostic tests need to be performed to rule out faulty sensors or if something else is causing the sensors to give the computer inaccurate information.
