Yes....lift the lever on the right side of the back rest and fold it
forward....lift the latches in the rear seat legs and rotate the seat forward and out of the floor mounts.

SOURCE: rear heat or rear air conditoner not workin in my 1997 gmc safari

two different problems !

Rear heater problem: find under the hood where is hose for cooling liquid goes to front heating core!
you will see there also vacuum tubesgoing in to little valve ! disconnect the vaccum tubes ( engine off)
and spray in wd 40 in to the vlave ... valve is stuck and wont open flow to rear heater !

you do not have to replace tha thing . its very well made and because you dont turn this often in summer
it gets stuck. i had same problem. also make sure vacuum is working - Engine running turn rear heater on - vacuum sucks to open valve. and before that make sure fuse is ok .

for rear AC mine does not work either and it is leak on pipes that go from front to rear .. 10 feet of pipes and tubing $$ expensive repair ... forget it ... open the window...

SOURCE: How do you lay down rear seat flat?

I just bought a 93 GMC Safari Van and couldn't figure this out either. Luckily, I did have the manual. It appears that the  lever under the front of the sofa moves in forwards and backwards. There is a lever on the corner of each side. Lift up on each and pull cushion forward. Also, you can push on the back of the sofa to help it go down. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: how to take off the cooling fan from 1997 gmc safari

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable for safety.
  2. Place a catch pan under the radiator, open the drain **** and drain the cooling system.
  3. Loosen the clamp, then remove the air cleaner assembly.
  4. Remove the upper fan shroud retaining bolts, then remove the upper shroud from the vehicle.
  5. Remove the fan and clutch assembly retainers using J-41240, or an equivalent fan clutch wrench.
  6. If necessary, remove the 4 bolts holding the fan blade to the clutch, then separate the fan from the clutch assembly.

Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the components to the following specifications:
you will need a special tool to remove #3 fan clutch.

the tool is sold in pep boys auto zone and many auto parts.

You need power to open it since it is controlled by an actuator.

Rear door will not unlock

You probabbly have a defective latch mechanism. You will need to pull the rear seats out to get room so you can take the panel off of the rear door and get access to the latch mechanism so it can be opened/fixed.
