SOURCE: Need torque specs for oil pan gasket

There likely is a spec for oil pan but unless you are a finatic, you really don't need to know what it is. Simple rule: Don't crank down ******* any fastener. If corners near crank ends have larger fasteners, you can tighten them a bit more than on siderails. Before tightening anything, install all bolts finger tight, to ensure that they are not cross threaded. To avoid warping pan, tighten from the center of the pan, working towards both ends, alternating from side to side as you go. When you are finished, go over it again, using the same amount of force on each bolt. As I said, end bolts can if larger in diameter, be tightened more but be careful not to tighten so much that you will either split or push the gasket out the sides.. Anywhere two gasket ends **** together, I recommend using a sensor -safe dab of silicone. An oil pan is not under any mechanical stress or pressure. I have used this method for many years and NEVER had one leak. If you really need #s, small fasteners get about 12-15in lbs, larger ones about 20.

SOURCE: Need torque specs for oil pan bolts

torque specs for these bolts can be found in a Haynes or Chilton manual availiable from your local parts store, or maybe at your local library, however these bolts are usually no more than 14 ft pounds, unlike cylinder head bolts, the bolts do not need to have any stretch factor to hold the oil pan gasket in place or sealed.

SOURCE: need to know how to remove oil pan with engine

3.8L Engine Fig. 2: Oil pan assembly - 3.8L engine 89693g43.gif

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  3. Drain and recycle the engine oil.
  4. Remove the oil filter.
  5. Remove the dual converter Y-pipe assembly.
  6. Remove the starter motor.
  7. Remove the engine rear plate/converter housing cover.
  8. Remove the retaining bolts and remove the oil pan. To install:
  9. Clean the gasket mating surfaces thoroughly.
  10. Trial fit oil pan to cylinder block. Ensure that enough clearance has been provided to allow the oil pan to be installed without sealant being scraped off when pan is positioned under the engine.
  11. Apply a bead of silicone sealer to the oil pan flange. Also apply a bead of sealer to the front cover/cylinder block joint and fill the grooves on both sides of the rear main seal cap. NOTE: When using silicone rubber sealer, assembly must occur within 15 minutes after sealer application. After this time, the sealer may start to harden and its sealing effectiveness may be reduced.
  12. Install the oil pan and secure to the block with the attaching screws. Tighten the screws to 80-106 inch lbs. (9-12 Nm).
  13. Install a new oil filter.
  14. Install the engine rear plate/converter housing cover.
  15. Install the starter motor.
  16. Install the Y-pipe converter assembly.
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Fill the engine with oil.
  19. Connect the negative battery cable.
  20. Start the engine and check for leaks. prev.gif next.gif

SOURCE: replacing a oil pan gasket on a 2000 ford focus

its a simple job no exact torque is needed as the bolts you are tightening will only require a ten millimeter socket to do it equivalent to a 1/4 inch bolt just snug them and top it all of with a half turn beyond that.simple job really .

Change oil pan

Well first of all you need to drain your oil. You also need a new oil pan gasket and oil pan. After you put on you new gasket you need to make sure you torque it with a torque wrench to your cars specs. You can rent a torque wrench if you need from almost any parts store if you need to save money. Also you need to torque them in an order. Usually it's inside out but yours may vary. I would suggest getting a book to show you the order for tightening. Good luck!
