Sharon, Check to make sure emergency brake is not on and fully released, try not to drive your vehicle if the red brake warning light is on. Could have air in the system from a small crack in brake line, faulty master cylinder, faulty caliper etc. Have a good tech. check braking system, diagnose and estimate repair.

CHECK OR HAVE SOMEONE CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL, BE SURE PARKING BRAKE IS NOT ON!

The amber ABS warning light is telling you that there is a problem with the ABS system. When the antilock brakes don't work you just have good old fashion non antilock brakes. When the red brake warning light is on it could be a couple of things. (unless you are talking about the brake light on the back of the car is stuck on) the red brake warning light on the dash tells you when the parking brake is on and it also tells you when there is a problem with the hydraulic system. Some cars will also turn this light on when the brake fluid is low, (not sure if the Cavalier does this)

The ABS system is computer controlled and needs to be scanned for trouble codes to diagnose the problem.

I can't say I have ever heard of a "brights" indicator flashing, Do the headlights go bright and dim as it is flashing? Is it a slow on and off like a turn signal or faster than that?

Yes it may be the wires are shorting or its actually the problem with instrument cluster.
Also get the vehicle scanned for any error codes stored in computer this will confirm whether is short circuit issue or actual problem:------

Nothing. You will just be operating a vehicle with conventional hydraulic brakes, san abs and traction contol. There are many other things that can cancel your abs, and turn on the light besides a faulty sensor, although a sensor, or sensor wiring are by far the most common causes.Is your red brake light on also? If it is, this indicates a dangerous hydralic fault that will also turn on the abs light, but absolutely must be addressed for your safety.
