It does blow correct? Just not hot air? This shop replaced the control head (the unit that the knobs are connected to)? I'm assuming the answer to all is yes. There may be a jam. Not too common but I've seen it a couple times. There are doors within the air box under your dash where your blower motor and heater core are. The control head controls these doors, opening one vent door to outside air and/or to the evaporator, closing the other vent door to the heater core or vise versa. It also controls the doors which direct air to certain ducts that will blow out the selected vents. If something has been droped down through a vent and worked its way to these doors I'm talking about, it could jam the door closed that goes to the heater core, preventing heat from blowing through the ducts.
With the AC, I wouldn't get in a hurry. You can rack up alot of money real quick trying to solve an intermittent problem with an AC system and not solve the problem at all. Be patient, and wait til the problem area goes completely, then you will know exactly what to replace.
Sounds like the "Blend Doors" are not completely closed (or opened). The Blend Doors open and close to direct the air from the blower motor to the vent selection you have made on the control panel (defrost on windshield, floor, front, etc) You may need to try various selections to see if the blend doors actually open or close. If no changes, it could be a blend door actuator failing.
the heater & defroster baffles are controlled by electic motors that open and close the baffle (doors) to let the air to the heater and defroster vents. the motor must be bad
Did you change the one behind the glove box door? If so you may have something inside the heater box keeping the door from moving completely open or closed.
Check the vent settings on the air control unit. If it is still not working then refer to a mechanic to have the air unit looked at for elecrical problems and to make sure all the air vents inside the ducts are opening and closing properly or that there is not a short in the wires to them or the motors are bad
i have the same probley 2006 LS...

if you notice when you press that button that closes off the out side air of your car it makes that... (More) if you notice when you press that button that closes off the out side air of your car it makes that noise.you don't even have to turn on the ac. it is just that open and close air vent that is stuck and it taps until it closes all the way. there is a motor that openes and closes that vent and on the motor that opens and closes that vent is a connector that just needs to be readjusted. i took the gove compartment off to see where the noise was and i found it. when you press those two buttons (the open and close air buttons) you can see the vent open and close and on the right of that vent you will see the motor and the connector that has to be readjusted. i hope you are good with taking things apart. it took me a second to see how it worked but it was so easy to fix. better than paying the dealer ship. if you have questions please ask me
Probably a blend door problem. This is the door that opens and closes when you turn the blower on. I'm assuming that you can hear the blower motor running, if not then it's the blower motor that needs changing.
