SOURCE: 1997 Mercury mystique the engine cooling fan will not operate

it could be the engine coolant sensors on the thermostat housing it controls the fans when they work if your sensor is out you can unplug the sensor while running the motor and if they turn on after a moment(the fans)then the sensor is bad if not make sure your fans work by jumping power to them 12volt

Radiator fan will not come on

Yes, it could be either of those things. It could also be a bad engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor or broken wires or loose connections to any of these things. It could also be an ECT sensor malfunctioning due to the engine coolant being low. You need to DIAGNOSE your radiator cooling fan circuits as well as the rest of your cooling system to find out which it is.

1997 Mercury villager, Air conditioner was working, now compressor kicks on and off, shows over charge in the red, why? Nobody added any freon.

high pressure is usually from heat not being removed from freon in the condensor. Usually it's because the cooling fan is not sucking air through the condensor. Check your cooling fan relays (3) in the battery box in front of the battery. Also, check to see if cooling fan has failed.
Does it work ok when the engine is cold and then quit after engine warm up? That would be a clue. When pressure gets too high, there is a high pressure cut-off switch.

Other posibility is a restrcition in the system. not common though.

1994 mercury villager

Start with engine cool. Remove rad cap, top up coolant, start engine, & turn on heater (not defrost). let it run until up to normal operating temperature & radiator fan comes on, then shuts off. Let it do this about 3 times before you put rad cap back on & top up return bottle to proper level. Every once in a while, rev engine slightly for a few seconds while your doing it, to speed up bleed by increasing flow. Keep an eye on temperature gauge for too hot, and fan not coming on, if so, shut it off.
