Bad earth to the ofending lights, burnt out flasher unit, worn switch. all assuming youv checked the fuse fisrt, after that check the flasher unit which should be in or near the fuse box and it will look like a rely so make sure youv got the manual or guide book befor you start pulling out the relays

they are under the dash, but its highly unlikly that both would go bad at the same timeyour promlem is probly in the steering colum

Go to the local parts store, have them check the codes (they will do this for free usually). It will tell you what sensor needs to be checked/replaced. Once the part is replaced, it will clear on its own. They can also reset the code, but it will come back if the trouble persists.

If you still have flasher problems, I read on Google to spray WD-40 down in and around the hazzard flasher button, then press it up and down several times...and BINGO...all flashers and signals worked again....just had some dirt and dust in the wiring....

I had the same problem and the flasher is not located in the fuse box because it is not a normal flasher. the cougar has an electronic flasher unit that is located on the left side of the center console. the best and cheapest place to order a new one is amazon.com. they run about $30-$40
