Starts and idles rough then dies

5.0L engine new in-line fuel pump, fuel filter, tps, egr valve and sensorsensor. Engine will crank and run but after a few seconds of idling becomes very rough and dies, you can keep the engine running if you give it throttle but it sounds like the engine is missing or not running correctly.

When you say the fuel pressure jumps up and down and the engine stops,then you should look for wiring problems to fuel pumps.If you jump one fuel pump from battery and it runs o/k ,than you know you have a wiring problem from relay to pump.

silly question, however did you check the air box for nests. it is not uncommon for rodents to climb in and make themselves at home. i would also say to get a maf from ford. check ALL around the engine compartment and underneath for evidence of rodents and their leavings. youll be very suprised what you may find.cheers

Car idles fine, but sputters, bogs and dies if gas pedal is pressed.

new spark plugs this decade. (a tune up?0
the filter is part of all 60k tuneups. letting it clog wrecks good pumps.
my wild guess, its lack of fuel flow, do to old filter.
or low fuel pressure.
car is identical to a Corolla. so is not unique or rare as some Geo cars are.
the cam belt not changes, invites valve kissing piston tops. BOOM
end of engine. (costs more to fix then worth of car)
the word is bogging, my engine bogs
if if bogs WOT (wide open throttle) and dont catch up < ITS NOT THE TPS. ever.
tps bad causes short bogs, called hesitations.
The map sensor , is what measure air flow and the ECU matches fuel to this air flow.
my guess, is it does that, but fuel pressure is like 15PSI, bad.

Engine dies

if it shuts off while driving down the road. and restarts after 10 minutes, its usually a bad crank sensor that does this. it messes up timing and shuts off fuel supply.

1989 300 SE mercedes benz dies after driving for 5 to 10 miles and will restart after it cools down. start easy and idles ok.

Could be the egr valve is sticking open. I would try diabling the valve by pulling the vacuum line off the egr valve vacuum port. You can plug the hose with a golf tee or bolt to run the test. Then drive the car on the highway where it would normally act up. If it still acts up, put the vacuum line back on the valve and check for other leaks, such as vacuum leaks--maybe the intake manifold gaskets.

1987 jeep comanche with4.0 will crank but wont idle i have already changed tps and idle air control valve and checked fuel pump and changed fuel filter and checked vacume lines with no change what else...

have you checked the crank position sensor? when this baby goes the engine will start and run for one or two seconds then die like its out of gas.

Also the ignition switch may be suspect.

1997 Mustang Cobra (4V, 4.6L), rough idling, won't stay running

It seems you have a problem with firing into combustion chamber,did you check if there is spark coming to all cylinders? It may also the coil pack that sits on the spark plug or the wiring to it ,whichever applicable.Be careful as this could cost a lot in terms of buying parts..hope this helps.

How can i tell if my ignition is going bad i can crank it over but as soon as i start to drive it shuts it self off

First, make sure all your ignition components test out good; ignition coil, spark plugs, plug wires, power transformer, and even your alternator and battery.

Next, check your fuel system; fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, and even your fuel injectors. Many times a clogged fuel filter can cause idling and hesitation problems. Also check for any restricted air passages starting from your air filter, all the way to your throttle body and EGR valve.ry checking the tps sensor (throtle positioning sensor). if the tps sensor is not working right when the engine warms up the tps sensor will not allow the fuel pump to pump as much as it needs to keep the engine running. The reason it only happens when the engine warms up is because the throttle is chocked when the engine is cold so it does not take as much gas to run it.

1986 Toyota 4X4 22r Engine

Hello;
It sounds as if you have a couple of possible problems. First could be the fuel pump. If yoou disconnect the fuel line, put the line in a jar and crank the engine over, you should get a pint in 15 seconds or so. Also check the pressure, should have around 5 psi. Secondly, you may have a vacuum hose cracked, broken, or leaking. Check your hoses and also the carbureator for leaks.
Hope this helps;
Thanks;
