Why brake lights wont turn off?

Brake lights suddenly came on and will not turn off. Truck had not been driven in several days. The switch can be manually depressed and lights will turn off.

Not sure on your frontier, but lots of brake light switches are mounted
just above the brake pedal, with a button, when you step on the brake, the brake arm hits the button & the lights go on, when released the button should retract and ligts go out, these switches are adjustable, usually you need to unplug the connector , then screw the switch in or out til the brake pedal arm isn't pushing on the button. don't go too far cause then the pedal won't hit the switch to turn them on.

What has happened is the switch on the brake peddle has moved. Reach under the dash and locate the switch and adjust it so the peddle is depressing the button.

SOURCE: brake pedal switch

Yes. Because the switch use a individual wire to the 3rd light.
To separete from the rear. because the rear lights, use the same bulb to signal and brake light.

SOURCE: i need a wiring diagram

there are two switches on altimas one brake switch is to cancel the cruise control if you have it on your vehicle, and the other is to control shift interlock (shifter when you press on brake pedal to relase) and the lights. this switch has more than two wires to it and they are very easy to replace but study them a bit before attempting, it just takes some twisting.
you might have jumped the wrong switch. it is common for the brake switches to go out, so my advice is to replace it. don't forget to check power supply to circuit (fuses) and older models tend to short out at the bulbs because the socket puts pressure on the lead contacts on bulb and brings them together
causing a short circuit that you forever will try to find in the wiring

SOURCE: Brake Light

The hole in the pedal arm is for the cruise control. There is a plastic plug that needs to be in place to turn off the brake lights. They should be available at any dealer - there is also one for the clutch pedal arm in manual trans. These are required for the cruise as well as to turn off the brake lights. I bet that several will now be able to have their cruise back.

look up above your brake pedal and you should see the switch. Depending on the car, the switch either pops out, or just needs a screw to be removed

is ther a rear brake equaliser on the rear axle? this is usually spring operated that pulls up on the rear brake limiter depending on load in vehicle may be stuck in the vehicle loaded position when the vehicle isnt carrying much weight worth a look , just jack up rear end and look for spring device centre of rear axle attached to a device with the brake lines entering/exiting if there get vehicle as high as safe to do then put blocks under rear wheels then slowly lower jack and look to see if the spring device moves down with the vehicle if not this could be the problem as is exerting pressure to rear brakes so causing them to over heat keep me posted

My brake lights wont turn off even when the truck is and my cruise wont engage either????

Your cruise won't engage because your brake lights are on permanently.
These are on permanently probably because your brake switch is faulty.
It's located near the top of your brake pedal.

Brake light came on put new pads on brake light wont turn off how do i get it to turn off

Change your brake switch. The brake switch is right there at your brake pedal. They get stuck sometimes. That is your problem. It is a switch with a wire and a plastic plunger in it. It moves back and forth when you press and release your brakes. It does not cost much. Maybe $10.00.

Brake light stay on and abs light comes on? what is the remedy.

I would start out by checking the brake light switch connected to the brake pedal. Usually when the brake lights wont come off even if you play with the brake pedal, it means the switch that tells the lights to turn on or off is defectie. However, Since 2007 on dodge rams, there is a new system implemented for all the lights, flashers and such which uses only one wire for all the lights. The light switches themselves now only change resistances to tell the computer at the other end of that wire which lights you want it to turn on. So if the brake switch is working fine, unfortunetly i can already say it's gonna cost a bundle cause it will invole changing the wiring harness completely and/or one or more of the many onboard computers in your pickup truck.
