Basically remove the wheel ( after placing the vehicle on jack stands). remove the bottom ball joint connection ( bolts or ball joint with a ball joint splitter) use 2 spring compressors and close up the spring mark one bolt in the engine bay at the top of the strut so you know where the unit goes on reassembly The bolts control the wheel alignment)undo the bolts and drop the unit out the bottom. undo the nut at the top and release the spring clamps. Lift the spring and top plate of the shaft. Undo the insert nut and remove out of the tube. Insert new insert and reverse the procedure. A workshop manual ( genuine or after market will have the procedure in full with photos)

you will need sockets and a socket wrench, a screwdriver, jacks and jack stands, and a set of combination wrenches.

also this site should help, it's a very thorough step by step on strut removal

SOURCE: how do replace the Hood Strut 1996 Ford Taurus

First, buy 2 new struts. Have someone hold the hood up (so it dosn't fall on your head) Doing one side at a time, using a sharp pick, push it under the strut retaining clip, lifting the clip away from the strut ball.(watch your eyes when doing this). You might have to move the hood up to release it from the socket.Do the same for for both ends> Install the new one by pushing it on,moving the hood up or down alittle to snap it back on the ball socket.

How do i remove rear coil spring on 2005 ford focus

Some autoparts stores lend tools as a courtesy. Things like spring compressors or strut compressors are needed. Some rear struts are made to come off as a unit with the coils made as part of the strut. Others are a 2 piece design and the coil and strut are individually replaced.

A note for the struts is that many need an alignment similar to the common front end alignment after you are done.

Mufflers- these usually come from the factory welded together. You need to allow for the lengths of the pipe and muffler in order to bolt them together after you saw off the old parts. IT HAS BEEN SAID THAT YOU CAN NOT GET A MUFFLER AS CHEAP AS A PROFESSIONAL SHOP CAN. Some are better off re-welded together instead of bolted. You would still have to buy U-bolts but a shop would just weld. Less parts less cost. Also dirt and rusty steel in an eye is not fun.

Noise from front springs after replacement

If you did not replace the strut bushings, this may cause suspension noise. Check if the spring is aligned and seated properly on the strut. This needs to be fixed, otherwise other issues will occur.

Whats the cost for struts

Aftermarket struts for this vehicle start at about 75 a piece. Assuming you want the two front struts replaced; you are probably going to be looking at anywhere from 350-450 depending on where you live to have a shop replace the two front struts and align the vehicle.

What sort of front suspension does a ford ka have? mine has dropped and the front wheel is rubbing on the inner wing.

You have a bad ball joint or strut most likely. The strut may of collapsed that is why the car is sitting low. I would lean more toward a strut problem than a ball joint.

2002 ford focus se. need to change the front struts (at least the passenger side).

I highly urge you to take the car to a repair facility. Replacing struts is very dangerous especially when removing the coil spring from the strut. Without the proper tools you or someone close can be seriously hurt. If you must replace them yourself than go with what is known as a ready strut. It is a complete assembly. New strut, spring, strur bearing, and strut boot preassembled. They are more money but worth it to avoid getting hurt.
