Take the exhaust lose before the catalytic convertor and see if this solves the problem. A stopped up cat could cause the symptoms you are talking about
I would check your idle, and to be sure not to press the acceleration pedal when you're stopped. You could try putting it in neutral while your stopped to try and help the acceleration go down. Hope this helps!?
You may want to check for a broken vacume line it will cause a high acceleration. Also have the code extracted and see what it says let me know or post it it would be helpful in giving you a more precise diagnosis.
