2002 Nissan Sentra Loses Power

My 2002 Nissan Sentra GXE (standard trans) used to run fine but now it idles rough and will randomly lose power when driving for no obvious reason. It will usually restart in 5-10 minutes and will run fine again for 70 miles or maybe just a block, you never really know. People told me it was the crank position sensor which I then replaced, checked for lose wires and connections and cleared out the "check engine" code. But my car still keeps randomly dying and the code for the crank position sensor is back on. I know NIssan had recalls for the crank position sensor in some Sentras and Altimas but my supposedly not for my car.

I also have a 2002 gxe and it doesn't idle rough, but will suddenly lose power. Seems to be mostly when I make a turn or randomly when I slow and go again. Also same symptom of getting it going again after a short wait. I would say it is something loose or... I need to get a code check on it. I haven't looked into either real diligently...:-(

Why does my 1997 nissan sentra stop when i make a complete stop or loses power like im running out of gas when i slow down

The torque converter clutch may be sticking in the applied position if an automatic . A dirty throttle body or bad idle air control valve can cause idle issues .

I have a 1994 nissan altima that has a rough idle, loses power

Before you start buying new parts, I have two suggestions. First, have the computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes. Any fault codes that relate to your problem should be investigated.
Second, spend the money for a compression test of the engine. What you are describing could very well be a bad exhaust valve that leaks and causes high gas consumption, loss of power, poor idle, etc. A compression test will verify if there is such a problem, or not. And, if it turns out that compression is good and high and even in all cylinders, you will have peace of mind knowing the internal condition of your engine is fine, and you will have no problem with putting money in it to get it running right again.

try your throttle adjustments or idle control sensor. should be on throttle body. unplug and replug random connections near that area while its running and see what makes a difference. also try checking exaust for restrictions in converter. feel for poor exaust coming out of muffler with your hand

try unplugging the mass air flow sensor. it's between the air filter and the engine throttle chamber. it has an electrical connector. if it idles fine, you need a new MAF sensor.
