My ford windstar have alternator problem, which is being fixed today. Currently, it has 142K miles on it. I am wondering how long this van can last since it has start giving me BIG problems. I have had it for only 6 months, I bought it with that 142K on it! Any idea?
Everybody I know ,has problems with this windstars,I had an 86,had to the front fix 2 times for the same thing,at over 400 bucks,each time.There know for having bad trans also,and Electra problems too.Get you trans fluid flush out.

My other half drives a 99 windstar think 2000 is the same though.
It was trial and error when I did mine. Through the top or Bottom, I figured out that the Alternator and all the supporting brakets have to be removed. The compressor is easily pulled after the alternator and brakets are out of the way.
Seeing as how no one ever changes trans fluid and all vehicles tend to have some trans issues,I would say your best bet is to check with a trans shop and if your comfortable there, have it towed. Unless it is something simple,expect about a $2000.00 repair bill.
Your alternator is not putting out any power. To check the alternator, when the motor is running, check the voltage at the battery. If the voltage is not between 13.8 and 14.2 volts, the alternator is malfunctioning. Chances are that the alternator killed your last battery. Make sure that the belt is at the proper tension so that the alternator is producing the voltage neccessary to charge the battery.
