Could be a fuel pump problem.

  • Aaron R Brundidge Jul 22, 2014

I discovered the solution to my own problem. Figuring that it was fuel-related, I looked toward the fuel pump. Being electrically operated, I turned my attention toward the fuel pump relay fuse. It was worn and in need of replacement. After replacing the fuse, my car had no starting or running issues.

Your fuel pump is going bad. It is in the gas tank. it shuts off when you are low on gas, because it gets hot. when you add enough gas to cover the pump, then it runs cooler, and will work. you can get by a month or so,just keeping your tank filled...but eventually the tank need to be removed, the pump pulled from tank and replaced with a new one.

SOURCE: my oil and gas gauge

You probably have a bad sending unit for the fuel level in the tank. this would cause the gauge to be erratic when the level is below 1/2 tank and the float is moving around much more than when full. The oil pressure gauge problem could be caused buy a loose wire connection or a faulty sending unit.

2006 Silverado 1500, runs great until it uses around 12 gallons of fuel 1/2 a tank, then it seems to run out of fuel but it will start right back up drive it to a gas station fill it up it drives fine....

The only thing that immediately occurs is, perhaps the fuel returning to the tank is causing the fuel around the pump intake to foam or become aerated and it only becomes a problem when half full.

95 chevy baretta ran out of gas now wont restart with plenty of gaz

You need to check if the fuel pump (in the gas tank) is still turning on to put gas up to the engine. It's been known to happen that running out of gas can burn out the fuel pump. Manufacturers put the pump in the tank so the surrounding gas will keep the pump running cool.

I think the gas tank requires a thorough clean-up including the outlet for the mains & reserve lines. My guess is that the main line is not completely clear thus after the gas level falls to half tank the obstruction is enough to trigger the fail indicator. So it seems the first thing to do is get your gas tank thoroughly cleaned............sodeep
