1992 Chevrolet C1500 Silverado 6 Cyl 4.3L POWER/AC ISSUE?

I just bought the above mentioned truck. The AC works, but when it is on the truck tends to overheat and I lose power to accelerate. When AC is off, acceleraton is fine. It sometimes misses, but otherwise good. I am not a mechanic, but my friend said we shouold 'free' the ac clutch so the fan is always on. My question to that is 'will i have the reduced acceleration after that'.?

doesnt sound like a overheat, a/c condenser in frt of engine radiator dumps more heat into engine compartment, causing viscous coulper to lock up(fan clutch) to pull in more air this is normal- is temp gauge out of range???

AC compressor when activated will ALWAYS draw some power from engine. Ergo less acceleration and gas mileage.

SOURCE: How much freon to put in the 1990 chevrolet c1500?

As long as you are using gauges, just make sure that the high side pressure is not out of the ballpark high... check cabin temp frequently and depending on ambient temp keep that reasonable as well (134 is not quite as efficient as r12 so don';t look for polar temps...you will blow it up before you ever get there.) 210-230 is average high side pressure, if I remember correctly. I've charged hundreds of units and except for very few, I couldn't tell you how much freon was used (unless using a charge station) Just following what I mentioned, I only had a problem with one (had a blocked condenser from the factory...so rare i actually remember it) Stay on the conservative side and you will be fine.

The first thing to try is a new fuel filter. There is sock filter within the fuel tank also, but it fails less often. If the engine has lots of miles, it may need a new O2 sensor although the codes should point that out if it were a problem.

SOUNDS LIKE MAYBE FUEL FILTER NEEDS REPLACE, AND OR EVEN SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES. A GOOD TUNE UP. IF YOU RUN LOW OCTANE FUEL YOU MAY TRY A CAN OF OCTANE BOOST, OBTAINED THRU THGE LOCAL PARTS STORE, IN WITH THE NEXT FILL UP. IT WOULD PROB BE A GOOD IDEA TO GET SOME INJECTOR CLEANER AND PUT IT IN WITH YOUR GAS TO SEE IF THAT HELPS.

Testimonial: "I put in injector cleaner and gas boost. No help. Will replace fuel filter. Could bad oxygen sensor cause this?"

There are literally many malfunctions that can turn that light on. You probably need someone with a code reader to pull the codes and go from there.

My 92 chevy silverado a/c light is flashing and the a/c doesn't work now

if you know system for a fact has full charge, The low pressure switch will keep ac from engageing, thus shut the system back off. it is simple to replace it is on the reciever dryer under hood on passenger side a silver cylinder you will see a switch like plug on the dryer this is a common problem.and they just unscrew and usually have a valve underneath that keeps you from losing freon if you remove quickly.

How do i replace 1992 1500 chevy truck ignition switch?

If it's the ignition lock cylinder, there is a screw/pin behind the steering wheel. You'll have to remove the wheel lock retaining ring and plate. You'll see the screw just above or below the lock cyl. If I remember, it's about a 5/15 socket that fits it. Oh yea, the key will have to be in the "run" position to remove the cyl.

Hi, could someone help me with the firing order of a 1990 Chevy Lumina power pack, please. Thanks

You didn't say what size engine you have, 4cyl. or 6 cyl.
The 4 cyl. is--- 1-3-4-2
The 6 cyl 3.1 is---- 1-2-3-4-5-6----- on the coil pack under the exhaust manifold is----- 1-4-6-3-2-5. If neither of these doesn't work, then you have a different engine.
