Jack up the front end remove tire onthe brake pad assembly there will be two Hex head bolts these will be probably a 3/8 u can use a big Alan wrench u will also need a small pipe to use a breaker bar and some WD 40 as these bolts are probably rusted just a bit, once u have the bolts out u should be able to remove the brake pad assembly,u might need a rubber malet to help with this,OK u got this off take the new brake pads out of the boxs, pay speial attention to the back of them, now take a big screw driver a pry just one of the brake pad off if u do the side with the caliber on it,(this is the round thing that pushes the brake pad on to the disk to stop the car)There is a clip take this clip off look that the back of the brake pad find the new brake pad that has the same notches in it put the clip on it the same way it came off put it back on the caliber,ok take the other one off, nothice the clip might be made in to the brake pad assembly on this side if not put clip in to same notches,Ok now u have replace the brake pads u will notice that the brake assembly will not go back on, not to fear take a Clean rag place it on the pad on the caliber side get a pair of channel locks now compress the caliber abit now it should side right on replace bolts and u are good to go do other side the same way.
You'll need to take out the pads agaon and clip the anti rattle plates to the back of the pads and then reassemble, the same way you did before....Don't open the brake lines or nipples just push the pistons into the cylinders with a convenient lever, so you have room for the new items to fit....Once fitted remeber to pump up the brakes before you start or move the vehicle....Regards Johngee
Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
Remove or disconnect the following:
Front wheel
Clip, 2 caliper pins, the anti-rattle spring then remove the 2 brake pads and the 4 anti-squeal shims
To Install:
CAUTION Only replace brake pads on 1 side of the vehicle at a time. Failure to use this procedure could cause the caliper pistons on the opposite side of the vehicle to pop out requiring the reconditioning or replacement of the brake caliper.
Remove a small amount of brake fluid from the master cylinder.
Install a used brake pad into the caliper and compress the caliper pistons.
Apply disc brake grease to both sides of the inner anti-squeal shims.
Install or connect the following:
Anti-squeal shims to the new brake pads NOTE: When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pads.
2 brake pads
Anti-rattle spring and the 2 caliper pins
Clip
Front wheel
Depress the brake pedal several times to seat the brake pads.
Check the brake fluid level and top off as needed.
SECTION 206-03: Front Disc Brake
2000 Focus Workshop Manual
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Brake Pads
Removal CAUTION: If brake fluid is spilt on the paintwork, the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water.
Loosen the wheel nuts.
Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02 .
Remove the wheel.
Detach the brake hose from the support bracket.
Detach the outer brake pad retaining clip.
NOTE: Pull the caliper outwards to release the piston. Detach the caliper.
Remove the bolt covers.
Remove the bolts.
CAUTION: Suspend the caliper to prevent load being placed on the brake hose. Support the brake calipers.
Lift the outer pad retaining clip over the spring retaining lugs.
Remove the outer brake pad.
Remove the inner brake pad.
Installation
CAUTION: If the caliper piston is retracted into the housing, brake fluid will be displaced from the master cylinder. Fully retract the caliper piston.
CAUTION: Make sure the brake disc faces are clean before installation. Install the inner brake pad.
CAUTION: Make sure the brake disc faces are clean before installation. Install the outer brake pad.
Push the outer retaining clip over the spring retaining lugs.
Install the caliper.
Install the bolts.
Install the bolt covers.
Install the brake hose onto the support bracket.
Locate the outer pad retaining clip.
Install the wheels.
Check the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir.
remove all connection bolts , clips. I then slowly pry the brakes as far from the rotor as posible ( depressing the brake cylinder) with tire tool or large screw driver, so the new thicker pads will go in with ease. Replace new pads acording to toyota and replace bolts/ clips. this method requires no bleeding of brakes.
If the brake fluid is midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, no brake fluid needs to be removed from the reservoir before proceeding.
If the brake fluid level is higher than midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, remove the brake fluid with appropriate tool to the midway point before proceeding.
6.1.
Install a large C-clamp over the top of the brake caliper housing and against the back of the outboard brake pad.
6.2.
Slowly tighten the C-clamp until the piston pushes into the brake caliper enough to slide the brake caliper off the rotor.
6.3.
Remove the C-clamp from the brake caliper.
Remove the lower mounting bolt from the slide pin.
Straight forward job. Remove wheels, remove 2 caliper bolts per wheel, check bolts, and bushings for wear/corrosion and lubricate, remove calipers, remove brake pads, push caliper pistons into calipers, replace anti-rattle clips, put new pads in, put caliper and bolts in, put wheels on. Start truck and press brake pedal several times to take up slack and you're done.
first undo the calpiper
the front will come of and also the front pad with a little cross looking clip
than take the whole rotor of to get to the back ones
the clip clips back on once you have evry think back on just the support the pins from moving
