Timing mark on harmonic balencer - 2000 BMW 7 Series

Camshaft gear pin hole aligns with a notch in the camshaft bearing cap, exactly behind the gear. You do not mention if you checked the marks on both cams, before going into the timing belt. they do not move, unless you removed one or both of the cams.

the harmonic balancer has just one big mark closest to timing cover, , you degree indacater or timing mark on timing cover is the center that is TDC when you drop your distributer in have the rotor on and when you put cap over it the wire that it points to should be # 1 cylinder and start your firing order from that point. if you get lost in this go to auto zone library for more info.

most likely to get the timming marks on a bmw you have to buy the service manual its hard to fid it on the internet without having to pay for it as well and with a book you will have it forever. but its comon to have the crank timing mark in the harmonic balencer and put it to zero ont the timing cover marks the cams can be in a variaty of ways depending on duel or single cams duel usualy marks point to each other or oppasat each other single usaly are lined up with the valve cover serface of the head pointing out

if this a 2.3 set the key on the crank at the very top, this will get you real close to TDC.

take the main pulley off and the harmonic balencer off and re-time the marks on the timing chain to make sure that your timing marks are perfecto if that doesn't help then re-time your distributor with the distributor gun if that doesn't help replace the spark plug and wire in cylinder 5 and if that doesn't work then you are probably gonna have to take the motor apart and replace the rods or bearings or valves

on the harmonic balencer look on both sides theres a tab off the block or timing cover

front of oil pan maybe or chain cover as well

it is located on the harmonic balencer(close to the fan, should be dead center on the front of the engine

Is you harmonic balencer back on? If it has timing sencer, it won't fire if it does'nt know when to fire.
