On most VWs there are spring loaded lugs (X2) inside holes at the back of the steering wheel . you need a hand held mirror to view this and a short screw driver to leaver them aside while pulling the airbag towards you . it is very fiddly to do.

SOURCE: Airbag light blinks

This problem was covered by a national recall. I had mine fixed at no cost to me ($1,500.00 paid by VW). If you have paid to have it fixed VW will reimburse you.

SOURCE: 2004 Volkswagon Jetta airbag deployment indicator

I had a similar problem on my 2003 VW Jetta. The airbag light lit and would not go off. If it's the same problem, you have to take it in for servicing and the tech has to turn it off.

I think it's a way for them to get you to come in for a "recommended" service if you ask me. They said it was dangerous, but it is your airbag...

SOURCE: AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT, NEW BEETLE 2004 GLS

Have a dealer service the airbag system as they have a shelf life and most likely that is causing it to trigger (alot like service lights on newer cars).

2013 Volkswagen Beetle airbags did not deploy in my accident

The airbag technology uses many factors when deploying. If it doesn't see the need, they won't pop out at you possibly injuring you more than the small accident. When I was clipped on my rear corner and spun me around in the intersection, they didn't pop. But a head first hit popped them. The primary sensor is behind the front bumper

Do you need to change the back head rest if they deploy on a 2007 v w bettle

What deployed? The airbags? You only need to replace the headrest if they are damaged.

I DIDN`T FIND INERTIA SWITCH IN BEETLE

The crash fuel shut-off system is integral with the airbag system. The airbag module turns off power to the primary side of the fuel pump relay in the event of an airbag deployment. There is no resettable "switch".

There is no code to do this that I am aware of. This is controlled in the PCM/ECM module and must be connected in a specific way and a Code Machine is needed to rest the system if the bag has been deployed or disconnected from the system.

Why did the airbag light go on vw beetle

There could be many reasons, the most common is a bad seatbelt buckle but the way to find out why is to have the airbag computer scanned, when scanning there are codes stored, this codes tell you the reason why, and what is not operating right, you would need a shop with a scan tool to diagnose, also when the airbag system sees something not working right it shuts down the system so no false airbags are deployed,so as long as the light is on you have no airbags that work, hope this is helpful.

Where is the airbag module located on 2004 vw jetta

The airbag module is a serious safety device and should not be tampered with. The entire air bag system ie module , air bags, seat belt tensioners etc are treated as one unit and there fore not a serviceable item or part replacement there of. The module should be located in the bowels of the dashboard (yellow wiring ) and mounter to the bulkhead. Do NOT tamper or adjust any componants.Good luck
