Code 1242 1999 caravan se, service engine soon light, codes 1242 and 3155 what do they mean

The transaxle Control Module (TCM) monitors the malfunction of sensors and actuators relating to transaxle control. When the TCM detects a malfunction with the control, a signal is send to the Engine Control Module (ECM) to trigger the Engine Light or Service Engine Soon light. The ECM stores the P0700 code and it means the TCM detected a malfunction with the transaxle controls.

Take it to Advance Auto Parts, or Auto Zone, they will scan your computer for free to get the code and tell you what it means. May just be a sensor, or the gas cap isn't tight (emissions) may or may not be serious. Thanks.

there is some fault that the engine's computer is documentig, and you need to get the code by having the car's OBDII (on board diagnostics) port hooked to a scanner,
this can be done for no charge at most retail auto supply stores-write down the codes and post them on here for help.

It means your computer detected a fault in one of the components it monitors and you need to have the codes pulled and the problem fixed.

The codes can be retrieved by turning your ignition switch on and off three time quickly and watch your service engine light. It will flash once pause then flash twice then it will begin to give any fault codes that have been stored. It will flash once or twice then pause then flash in concession again then pause and start another code if any. When you have retrieved all the codes available it will flash 5 times pause then flash 5 times which means it has finished. There are several sites on the net that will explain what each code stands for and which circuit needs your attention.

a i got a 1996 with the 3.8 dodge caravan and the codes red 12 and 55 my car wont start at all got gas in it

it means you have trouble codes in engine or trans controller..any performance difference of your vehicle?you need to have vehicle scanned to determine what is going on..let me know

well the check engine light is directly intergrated to the vehicles main computer.often times when the vehicle is repaired the code that caused the light to come on needs to be reset. there are to forms of codes active, and stored. what often times happens is a stored code doesn't get reset and from time to time it will cause the light to come on. also it could be that even though you had the vehicle repaired it could be that they either did not fix the right problem or they never reset the codes. my suggestion is to take it back to the shop that repaired it and have them do it right. one other thing you should check is that all your fluid levels are as they should be. in most vehicles today low fluid levels ie coolant, oil,etc will cause the light to come on. hope this helps you...please rate this
