What do you mean it just stopped going? Can you not move the truck at all, or can you not shift gears? Did you replace the clutch while you had the transmission out? Can you put the transmission in gear with the engine running?

SOURCE: my 1997 ford taurus transmission slips when it shifts to second

this is caused by a piston in the transmission that has a crack in it once it warms up the crack seals and operates normally.being cold the crack opens up allowing fluid to flow past it. take to trans shop as soon as you can, will be minimum repair if it has not caused further damage in the transmission.

SOURCE: I just rebuilt my E4OD TRANSMISSION ON A 93 FORD

A couple of possibilities: Sun gear is cracked or gear is stripped or your valve body has a sliver of aluminum or dirt in it allowing valve not to move.

SOURCE: Signs of clutch and gearbox failure

If you drive it easy and don't take off lie a rabbit and drive like grandma it would be possible to miss clutch wearing out. As far as gearbox damage is concerned it depends on how long you let it go before fixing. If you have to shove it into gear you can damage syncros and bend shift forks. And if it goes long enough that would ruin the gears and bearings with enough metal in the oil that could wear shaft and bearings. You will get clutch chatter and your performance will be poor mileage will drop. And the clutch chatter can cause the flywheel to be damaged and need to be surfaced, it could burn up the slave cylinder, so it is not wise to let it go, as it will cost more money.

You might need a new clutch attachment kit... there is a clip that usually goes bad and causes the cable to float.(No tension)

1993 Ford Explorer 5 speed driving it without the clutch slave without the clutch and without the 5 speed gear shifter how to get into 3rd gear

the process involves plenty of hydraulic fluid as well as gears and clutches.
If you have an automatic transmission, and it "slips" while you are driving it-that is, the car engine revs without the power going to the wheels-the most common cause (though not the only possible cause) is low transmission fluid. If the slipping is caused by low fluid, it will get worse as the transmission gets hotter.

Why will it not go into 5 gear,It will go in 1 thru 4 but when you let out on clutch, truck won move, it goes dead. Truck will roll in neutral ........ Thanks for any Help

Are you sure that you are selecting FIFTH or are you selecting REVERSE? A "smart" car will kill the engine if you shift into REVERSE while moving forward, to prevent you from breaking the transmission.

Transmission slips in 3rd and overdrive

Take it to transmission shop you may need bands adjustment or band and clutches worn out.... transmission shop will check no charge really nothing one can do without a shop and a hoist
make sure you have oil and a plugged trans filter would do that if it did something cooked if the car is worth it get a rebuilt put in cheaper than trying to repair is high invest it in a rebuilt with warranty better than towing off highway

My transmission is slipping when accelerating from a stop. 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix, 3.1, filter and fluid changed one year ago.

The forward clutches are going bad is the most likely problem. To repair the trans should be rebuilt.

first thing i would try is changing the transmission fluid out and filter, i beleive its almost 8 quarts. use a full quart of lucas transmission additive with the new fluid. if this doesn't help, the transmission will either need replaced or rebuilt

Transmission

Well ,

If the fluid is dark, burnt , or has metal or dark clutch material.
The transmission has a burnt up clutches ,the sun shell in most cases with this transmission is the cause of failure inside. The sun shell holds the clutches and steels in place . When the sun shell breaks the transmission is loosing pressure inside. Then the clutch are not engaging . This is why the transmission is slipping This is a very common problem with this vehicle. The sensors/ soleniods are located in the valve body of the transmision. There are some cases where a transmission shop can tighten the sun shell or bands. This could be a temporary fix, The best thing to do is have the transmission replaced or rebuilt at your local transmission repair shop
