The clue is the Check Engine Light (CEL). Get the ECU read for the error code(s). The Cruise light turns on when the ECU detect any error.

It may be as simple as a gas cap that is not tight enough.

SOURCE: 05 outback p2009 code and

Hello,

I am unable to find a P2009 code. The closest I have come across is a P2109 which is:

THROTTLE/PEDAL POSITION SENSOR "A" MINIMUM STOP PERFORMANCE

Which will usually be accompanied by:

  • Improper idling.
  • Poor driving performance.
  • Engine stalls.
Also the "Cruise" light will always flash when the Check Engine light is on with these later models, but it does not mean there is a concern with the Cruise control. The diagnostic checks for these cars require the SDS: Subaru Diagnostics System.(A laptop computer with Subaru specific diagnostic software). These concerns are unfortunately not easy to diagnose w/out Subaru dealership resources. I hope this info helps.

CEL light, cruise control and brake light blinking and traction control light (codes P2096 and C0057)

I have seen this happen with dirty or loose connection ether at or around the battery and also the connection at the under hood fuse block itself . Sometimes its the connections under the fuse block. Check them all , and while its apart apply some dielectric grease to each connection, If you can find the connection to the ABS pump I would start there. The ABS is part of traction and stability control . Disconnect the battery before unplugging anything tho .

I just replace my rear rotors and pads for mu 2011 Subaru outback. Now my parking brake light is flashing. How to reset the brake light?

You should check your parking brake adjustment. That light means the parking brake sensor isnt aligned properly.. You might have missed the adjustment when you replaced the parking brake linkage. There is no way to reset the light without fixing the issue.

I have code p0573 saying brake switch A is high although brake lights are working ok, can anyone help please

Possible causes
- Faulty Brake Switch
- Brake Switch harness is open or shorted
- Brake Switch circuit poor electrical connection
help.jpg What does this mean? When is the code detected?
The P0573 codes is set when the stop light switch signal is too high.
Possible symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Stop light inoperative
- Cruise control system inoperative
P0573 Description
When the brake pedal is depressed, the stop light switch sends a signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM). When the ECM receives this signal, it cancels the cruise control.

I have "Subaru Outback" 2008. "Check Engine"is on

P0420 Usually indicates a bad catalytic converter or a bad oxygen sensor. Since you car is 2008 my money is on the oxygen sensor. Or it could be something as simple as an exhaust leak. The cruise control will keep flashing until you get the CEL fixed

2006 outback with the stability control light and engine light on with the cruse light blinking - had it back to subaru twice and no joy!

The cruise control is automatically disabled whenever there is a problem that triggers the CEL. The flashing CC indicates that it is disabled. I'm not sure about the Stability Control light being on, but would think that if there was traction problem causing the Stability Control system to kick in, it would also turn off the CC -- the SC uses braking and engine throttle to stabilize the car so the CC has to be out of the loop.

If the CEL is still on, I'd have the codes read to see what triggered it. Usually, if a problem is not detected again for three consecutive driving cycles, the CEL will go out (although the code is stored for a longer time and can still be read).
Read the codes yourself. 2005+ models display all the engine/transmission/abs/vdc codes on the dash.

Just perform this sequence within 10 seconds:

1. Turn key to ON position (just before START)
2. Turn headlights ON
3. Press Trip button 4 times
4. Turn headlights OFF
5. Press Trip button 4 times
6. Turn headlights ON
7. Press Trip button 4 times
8. Turn headlights OFF (optional)

Codes will display in the trip meter. You might have to press the Trip button to cycle between engine, transmission, and braking computers.

The abs/vdc codes, at least, should be saved forever unless a dealer clears them.

Why does my crise control not wotk

it can be a number of things, first i would make sure your brake lights work,on some vehicles if your brake lights are inop the cruise is inop, check the bulbs, fuses, brake lightswitch,if all are good, it could be the cruise control module, that could get technical.
