The instrument panel reads: immobilizer active, and also reports faulty steering, it can not crank.i have changed the battery, checked fuses and they are all good.
Are you using the spare key? try using the original ignition key, and find out if it works
The immobilizer came on for a reason. But to deactivate it you need to take off the stick shift knob by pulling real hard on it and remove the cover at it\'s base. Take off the black plastic cover first around the stick shift. The screws are found under the arm rest. Undo the screws and lift up on the plastic cover, the clips will release. Once exsposed, you then need to pull the foam rubber out of the way at the front of the base of the stick shift. Look down inside (you might need a flashlight) and you\'ll see a small "L" shaped lever and I mean small. Flip the lever down with a small screw driver and you\'ll be able to put it in gear and drive it. Now the problem. Porsche for some reason, has run wires under the carpet and through a plastic tube on both sides of the front driver and passenger side. You need to remove the kick plates and pull the rug back a bit to expose the wiring harness. Once done, you need to unwrap the wire, exposing a couple of factory connections that have been tapped together, undo the tape and check on these connections. Any sign of corrosion due to dampness from either melting snow or water coming in from clogged windshield drains, you\'ll want to cut these back, clean the wires by usiing fine steel wool or sand paper, then join them back together and tape them well. Two of mine were cooroded so bad that the connection broke. Rewrap the wires with tape and also wrap them with plastic wrap to keep them dry. Do the same to the passenger side. Now, flip back the immobilizer lever in front of the stick shift and try to start your vehicle. I also found that these wires controlled the cruise control and brake booster warning light. This job took me about two hours, saving me approx. $1500. Good luck.
Thanks soooo much for posting this. I'm going to attempt this now. Will let you know my results.
Does this process turn the immobolizer off so I am able to turn the key and start the car?
