My lock on the rear door of my 2004 jeep liberty no longer opens with my remote. I cannot open the door. how do I open the door?

  • david dixon Jun 16, 2015

Climb in the back and take the inside cover off the lift gate. Then locate your door lock actuator. Now you can manually unlock the door to get it open. Next with a test light have someone hit the lock and unlock button as you probe for power at the door lock actuator if no power then your door lock switch is bad or you have a broken wire most likely from the top of the lift gate. If power is present then replace the door lock actuator

Same problem. Found the manual actuator and it still will not open. Activated the unlock on the driver door, and it still will not unlock. When using the door or fob lock, the actuator fires but the door will not unlock.

SOURCE: Power door locks on rear doors do not open

The rear doors have a separate relay for the lock and unlock function. There's a good chance the unlock relay is bad. The relays in question are located in the left instrument panel fuse block. Hope this helps

SOURCE: the rear hatch door won't open either with the

After a while, the mechanism (actuator) that unlocks and releases the rear glass hatch in your Blazer or Jimmy will eventually burn out. when it does, there is really no way to open the glass and lower the tailgate.
The only way to replace the burnt out actuator is to open the tailgate which you can't because the actuator is burnt out.

I've read stories that even the dealers don't know what to do, some have even cut up the back panel to reach the so-called manuel release. Others said they pulled back the glued on carpet to search for it also.

Well if you don't want to hack up the tailgate panel or rip out your carpet, here's the easy way to open the glass:

You just pull back the interior tailgate panel right above the bump in the middle where the latch is. There are no screws or bolts in that area, you can safely pull it back about 2 inches. Then you'll have to stuck your finger in and push down the release bar.

When you get your finger back there, you should be able to feel for the part that need to be pushed down. When that part is pushed down, the glass has been unlocked.

When you get your finger back there, you should be able to feel for the part that need to be pushed down. When that part is pushed down, the glass has been unlocked.

Good luck and hope this helps, The actuator that needs to be replaced costs $58 from the dealer.

2004 jeep liberty, window drive broken, fell down, now rear door is locked and cannot open inside or out

If your careful you can get the door panel out of the window trim at top with out breaking it. Hooter day is best to do it as the plastic panel is more pliable. Once out wedge it back some and pull the trim out. This will give you a good inch plus gap to work threw. Most like the cable has wrapped around it. Flash light to see it and bent coat hanger, long screw driver or bar. You should be able to get it open.

How do I fix the locks for a jeep liberty 2004, the doors work with the remote except the drivers door an the rear swing gate the glass latch works with the remote but the door latch does not open

most likely a wiring problem between internal "radio" receiver and Driver's door lock system. It probably also connects to the other issue. These things are very complicated. I doubt any DIYer could ever figure it out. If not the dealer, perhaps you can find an up to date locksmith to help out.

Is there a way to unlock the rear door of a 2004 jeep liberty from the inside

If you hit the unlock button in the door 2 times, it should unlock the tailgate. Otherwise you may have to go back to the dealership and have them program a new remote for you. If the battery in your remote went dead, it may work again by replacing the battery.

Why won't 2004 jeep liberty rear hatch door open?

There is no keyhole and switch on the rear hatch in Jeep liberty.
You can control the hatch by remote key and window/door switch on the driver seat side.
I don't know why they make like this, it's inconvenience.

Rear door locks but the glass section will not latch

I have the same problem. Try pressing the rear hatch opener button on your remote. Just press it once. Try shutting the glass section after that. For mine, it's caused when you open the rear door without first pressing the release button on the remote. Now I make sure I press the button to open it first.
