The car is due for a 75000km service and i need to know if the timing belt or timing chain needs replacement.
Hi most cam belts should be changed around 60K miles so about 10000 km, on the service the mechanic should be able to inspect the belt with a torch for sights of fraying, to see if a problem now.
If you get it done always request old parts to inspect to make sure not being taken advantaged of, yes even the garage you used for ever will occassionaly take advantage, if money not a problem be save and get it done. Use O.E parts for extra confidents.
The Yaris has a 4 cyl and it has a timing chain not a belt.
SOURCE: When to replace timing chain on 2003 Camry V6?
Replace the timing belt at 90,000 miles.
It will not damage the motor (bend the valves) if it breaks or jumps time
Finally, if you do change the belt, make sure that the water pump is inspected very close for any evidence of coolant seepage at the impeller shaft weep hole. If there is ANY evidence of wetness or leakage, replace the pump then. Easier to change the pump when the belt is off, than to have to do the whole job if the leak gets worse, and, if it leaks down the road, coolant on the timing belt will damage the belt, and you will have to buy a new belt, too. Change the plugs at 90 K miles, too.

Hello, A 2005 Camry with a 2.4 4 cylinder engine has a timing CHAIN not belt. I don't think that there is a routine maintenance schedule for this. If there is no audible noise coming from the chain area, you probably have nothing to worry about.
I hope this helps

SOURCE: timing belt or timing chain?
You 98 Corolla has a timing chain that it internal and need no normal maintenance. It uses a hydraulic/spring tensioner to keep things tight and as long as its quiet, everything is fine.
Your drive belt (not to be confused with a t. belt) is the external belt you see on the passenger side of the engine. It drives you alt, water pump, A/C and power steering. It uses a spring loaded tensioner to keep the belt tight. These can weaken over time and cause a rattle noise and belt slippage.
SOURCE: does 98 toyota camry have timing belt or chain?
Both the 4 and 6 cyl. engines in this car have belts. The 4's don't last as long because they lack a tensioner and get noisy. Toyotas for the most part do not get hurt when the belt breaks. non interference engines...nice huh?
