SOURCE: how to change speedometer cable 1988 toyota corolla

you have to remove the speedo unit on the dashboard front of your steering wheel. you must be careful not to brake anything. then turn it slightly on the left and you will see the speedo cable connector in the center of the unit, Unplug it,it is easy, the go in the engine compartment on the gear box side and you will see the speedo cable ended on top of the gear box close to firewall and you have to unscrew the end and slowly slowly pull the cable coming off the fire wall from the driver's side by pulling as well a rubber sealer on the firewall. renew it and go backwards fitting.

Just had my 1988 Chevy truck transmission rebuilt. Now my oil pressure gage and speedometer gage don't work, nor the mileage doesn't move. What did they not hook back up?

check the speedometer cable is connected at the transmission and the cable is not broken. check the oil sender unit is connected, it can be found near the oil filter.

1995 toyota camry speedometer not working

If the odometer is incrementing mileage, the speedometer unit itself has failed. If the odometer is not incrementing, either the speedometer cable has broken or come disconnected (most likely), or the cog inside the transmission has become damaged.

You change the speedometer or just the cable?
You mean when you drive and the speedometer turn too high or low then normal?

If so. Wrong cable/or speedometer.

How to fix the speedometer and odometer

a cable will run through your firewall into the rear of your dash it should connect to either the top or side of your gearbox, it has a cog on the end that clicks over the speed and odometer, id say its worn or broken, you will need to replace it.

Speedometer just quite working

Your speedometer-cable is broken.
You could replace it by disconnecting it from the transaxle, and also from the back of the speedometer itself. (disconnect the battery before you do this).
You will need to remove the instrument cluster to be able to get to the speedometer-cable at the back the speedometer.

Speedometer cable

unscrew other side as well at back of speedo ..pull it out that way...also if damaged it wont pull through.. cut broken end off and then pull through.....worst case it has come apart (the inner square ended cable you are replacing)..and you need to replace the whole speedo assembl;y with case and cable ..good luck
