1997 Chevy S-10 P.U. 4.3 V-6 w automatic transmission. If the outside temperature is above 85-90 degrees, the engine will start running poorly and die. You can turn the ignition switch to the off position and then it will restart, but still run poorly and die again. If you leave the ignition switch off for 1 - 2 minutes and then restart, it will run ok for 2 or 3 minutes and then start running poorly again and die. You can keep doing this until you get home. What are the possible causes of this issue?

I had the same problem with my 94 chevy 6.5 diesel, and spent alot of money trying things that people told me to try.I wound up taking it to the dealer and they told me it was the injection pump. They put one in it and that fixed it.It has run great for over a year and a half. This set me back about $4000.00!

You need to find oput what you loose when the truck shuts off, all you need is Air, Fuel , and spark to run one of the three are droppuig out when it stalls and will not run. Chech the carb for gas it sounds like you have a weak fuel pump.
Testimonial: "Great idea...I assumed that because the line was full of fuel when i checked the bronze filter element. Fast response, thanks!"

sounds like it could be a fuel injector shorting out. have to get it hot, pull off the plenum and check the resistance in each injector. if any injector has bad resistance, replace it. when an injector shorts out on these particular vehicles, it shorts out the whole injection circuit. and when it cools off the resistance goes back up and it will run ok. i think the correct resistance should be about 13 ohms.

My c1500 is on its 4th fuel pump and machanics all tell me its just a problem with this truck. However They put a napa brand one on after a motor rebuild 3 years ago and I have not had a problem since. You may need to put a fuel injector cleaner through it. There is a valve at the top rail and if it is a vortec you need at least 65 psi there when its runnining the throttle body needs like 35psi.
