SOURCE: setting idle speed on a 2001 vw beetle 2.0-

The engine doesn't have a mechanical idle speed adjustment - VW/Audi have a software called VagCom (the diagnostic software they use) that is used to adjust the idle - it's completely computer-controlled. You have to change the idle speed using the software.

SOURCE: vw cabrio 1998

I recommend taking apart the intake and cleaning it thouroughly, including the vacuum hoses from the valve cover to the intake hose. I had a very similar problem and it cured mine wonderfully. It took me about 3 hours to dissasemble and clean everything with carb cleaner and re-install it all. For clarity, I took off everything from the airbox to the intake of the engine, including the large aluminum air duct that covers the top of the engine and exposes the spark plugs. Which is a great time to change plugs and wires by the way.

Good luck.

SOURCE: 98 vw cabrio need to replace window regulator

THis is common Too common. As I posted before.

As I posted in the Passat questions.

The jetta may slightly differ.

Yes. If your window has fallen down and will not roll up.
99% Chance you car is suffering the Infamous VW plastic clip.

The door panel comes off With a T-10 torx or a Hex (Allen) wrench
that will fit and A large Philips Screw Driver..

Remove the Plastic cover on the inside Door handle.
And the Screw or Screw along the Bottom of the door panel.
Then remove the screws that hold the handle the the door.
They are located behind the Plastic plate you removed with a tiny screw driver earlier... Be careful not the mark up the cover whaytprying it up. It is best to pry from underneath. Where marks if made can not be seen

After the screws are out 4 I believe. The Use of a CLip tool ir best.
For getting behind the panel to pop it off. A screw driver will work.

After all the clips are released. Pull the light at the bottom of the panel down and out. Disconnect it ur push it back thought the hole it came from..

Now you need a 10mm socket, or wrench to remove the 12 bolts that hold the metal plate to the Door. Remove all the 10mm bolts, If the widow has not already fallen in the door. It should be released. By removing the Black 2" plugs. THe loosen the bolts that clamp the window the the arms. DO NOT LOOSEN THEM ALL the way, .
Disconect the all the wiring.. THe Door lock cable, can be a pain.
I think it pulls down,.
Next remove the Metal plate. that is the regulator.

reverse to install

SOURCE: my 95 vw cabrio shuts down both at 65 mph or just sitting in park

To keep it simple first, try replacing the fuel filter. They have a average life of around 30,000 to 40,000 miles or one year. you can pick one up at Auto Zone and they can give you the step by step instructions to get the job done with common tools and you can also have the car scanned there for any DTC codes and it's free of charge. Keep me posted, be glad to help you getting your car running 100% again.

I have 1998 vw cabrio just did a tune up runs great in idle put in drive car dies at 20mph can get car to 45 mph but very slowly why?

sounds like either the spark plugs weren't gapped right or the wires are in the wrong locations.
Google search the firing order and check the wires/loactions first, then if they are correct, have a look at the spark plug gaps.

I have a 98 mer villeger if the car is on drive and i step on the brakes with the air codition on the car keeps pushing forward

Normally the engine has to idle faster because of the extra load of the brake lights when you press on the brakes.. Sounds like your idle speed is a little high. Have someone set your idle speed properly.

Hope this helps you

Can I turn off the automatic headlight of my 1998 vw cabrio? It on even when it day time.

You can set the parking brake to the very first click. This will turn the lights off. But you will have the brake indicator light on, in your instrument cluster.

Speedometer not working in my 1998 vw cabrio

Replace the vehicle speed sensor. It is located on the transmission. If that doesnt solve it, then it would be either a short in the wire from the sensor to the cluster, or your cluster is bad.
