SOURCE: removing alternator from 01 nissan altima

All the bolts that hold the alternator in place are lefty loosy, righty tighty. The desigh of those changed so I am not 100% sure how yours is bolted up. There are alternators, which have 3 bolts and there are 2 bolt alternators. One bolt ontop and other long one at the bottom, which runes from one side of alternator to the other. Note sure, which one you have, but there are NO BOLTS with reverse thread on your Nissan. All loosen up to the left and tighten to the right. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: starter motor

  • If your testing indicates that the starter must be removed, the first step is to disconnect the negative cable at the battery.
  • It may be necessary to place the vehicle on a lift to gain access to the starter. Before lifting the vehicle, disconnect all wires, fasteners, and so on that can be reached from under the hood.
  • Disconnect the wires leading to the solenoid terminals.
  • To avoid confusion when reinstalling the starter, it is wise to mark the wires so they can be reinstalled on their correct terminals.
  • On some vehicles you may need to disconnect the exhaust system to be able to remove the starter.
  • Loosen the starter mounting bolts and remove all but one.
  • Support the starter while removing the remaining bolt.
  • Then pull the starter out and away from the flywheel.
  • Once the starter is free, remove the last bolt and the starter.
  • Once the starter is out, inspect the starter drive pinion gear and the flywheel ring gear.

If you're talking about the frame that sit under the oil pan, you simply remove it, there 2 bolts that hold it on each side.

Where is the starter on 1996 nissan sentra

The Starter is right next to the oil filter in a 1996 Nissan Sentra. You will need a floor jack and two jack stands. To Remove: Disconnect Negative Terminal From Battery. Then, get under the car, and disconnect the electrial connector (easier with a slotted screwdriver) Then using a 12 or 14mm socket, remove the bolt you can see mounting the starter to the engine. Now, pop open the hood. Get a deep socket, knuckle joint, extensions, etc. From above, you will remove the second and last bolt. If done properly, you should finish within 2+ hours.

Remove the starter from the car there may be a plastic cover on the transmission that cover the stater bolts . after you have remove the starter there are two bolts holding the solenoid to the starter. Just some advice if you go to the trouble to remove the starter just replace it as a whole assembly . its takes a little work to get the starter out and would hate to see a starter motor problem along with a solenoid problem

NISSAN STANZA WAGON - Manual Transmission

Q. Where is the starter on a 1986 nissan stanza station wagon and how do you get to it ?

Due to limited access to the starter, it is recommended that the transaxle be removed when servicing the starter.

REMOVAL:

1. Cold vehicle.

Remove 2 mounting bracket bolts, 10 & 12 mm (Figure 1).

Remove top starter motor bolt 14 mm with universal & long extensions.

Raise vehicle on hoist.

Remove front splash pans 10 mm.

Automatic transmission: Drain 2 qts out.

Remove rt-ft wheel 21 mm., & tie rod (Figure 3), axle cap, cotter pin, adj-nut & rubber washer.

Remove ball joint nuts 17 mm., left lower control arm 19mm. & swaybar bracket 14 mm. (Fig 2).

Remove axle nut 36mm (Figure 4), the front tube, catalytic converter heat insulators 10mm, ctr ex-tube 17 mm., and front tube from exhaust system (Figure 5).

Remove long bolt from ft engine mount (next to radiator), 17mm socket (Figure 6, Item A).

Remove tension rod mount 14 mm. Has adj-bracket with rubber insulators (Fig 6, Items B, C).

Remove right side drive shaft bolts that hold shaft to bracket mounted on engine (Fig7) 12mm.

Remove rt-driveshaft.

CAUTION: Transaxle side seals are cut by spline teeth.

Install hoist type transmission jack and wooden block under the transmission/engine. Be certain the transmission is safely balanced on the hoist.

Remove 5 engine crossmember mounts (3 bolts, 2 nuts) 14mm.

Remove nut that attaches crossmember to engine mount.

Loosen stabilizer bar mounts to allow adequate clearance for crossmember to be removed.

Remove following brackets to allow starter assembly to pass through bottom:

tubular support bracket - engine to transaxle

angled support bracket - driveshaft bracket to engine mount

manifold collector stay - (bottom bolts)

Loosen top bolts, remove bracket above driveshaft-holding bracket 14mm.

NOTE: This bracket is slotted to allow it to slide out without completely removing the bolts.

Remove bottom starter motor mounting bolt.

Separate starter assembly from bellhousing, DC all cables/connectors, remove starter motor.

When installing starter, connect cable, install/torque starter bolts.

Removal and Installing
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.
  2. On the VE30DE and VQ30DE engines, remove the air duct.
  3. Disconnect the starter wiring at the starter, taking note of the positions for correct installation.
  4. On the VE30DE engine, remove the connector brackets.
  5. Remove the starter-to-engine bolts ,and remove the starter from the vehicle.

To install:

1996 Nissan Sentra would not start...

I changed the starter in my 1996 Nissan Sentra, and I assume the 1997 Sentra is very similar to mine. It's a VERY nasty job. Basic steps are: 1) put car on lift or on ramps (so you can get underneath) 2) remove cable connections to battery 3) remove oil filter (yes, that's right. The filter needs to be removed to provide proper clearance for your hands, tools, and starter itself. Yuck!) 4) remove the bolt on the lower portion of the support strut for the intact manifold, so the support strut can be gently moved slightly to the side to provide clearance 5) remove the electrical connections to the starter 6) remove the 2 bolts holding the starter to the engine. One is accessible from below, and the other one (believe it or not) is accessible from the top. Installation of course is the reverse of the above. It's a genuine pain to change the starter. But, on the positive side, it beats having to pay the dealer or a mechanic.

There are a few tips/under line a few points, after just having done it. You need a long group of extensions. Just undo both battery cables to minimize risk. Undo where the negative battery cable attaches to the engine. There is a bolt next to this that you can undo too. Either this bolt or the battery cable bolt holds the starter. (you'll see on the starter housing one bolt hole is trhough, one is threaded.)
Remove the oil filter. Remove the plastic shroud near the right tire. Remove the strut (or at least the lowest bolt so you can turn it) that will make it impossible to get a socket or remove the starter itself. Unscrew the bolt for the power cable to the starter assembly before removing the starter. Now use your long, long extension to hold the ratcher near the right wheel and tunnel through that mess to get the underneath 14mm bolt. Wiggling out the starter assembly is like getting the oil filter out, a bit crowded.
