I bought a 02 saturn sc2 that has tranny problems ' an from what i have read an the codes i had ' po732 '733 '734 got me beleaving that it was the valve body 'so i got one from a wrecked saturn at the junk yard an it did'nt help. i mean at first the tranny shifted perfect untill it warmed up. now i dont have reverse an only the first gear works. i changed the filter an put new fluid .should i just replace the whole tranny or is there something i can do to fix this one ?

firstly it may not be just the fluid because if its driving normally in all forward gears it could be a reverse band failure
If you want to try its on one side of the transmission
its a long tube with a dip stick in it used to check the fluid level!
it will need to be in nuetral & at idle in normal operting temperature range with the hand brake firmly applied! b4 you dip it & see
what the level is
to dip it pull it out wipe it cleane then push it all the way back down the tube & pull it straight back out look at where the fluid is on the stick!
if your not sure do it all again till you have a good reading
id suggest that you just drive it to get it checked but dont get blocked if you cant back up!

It sounds like you have the wrong transmission. If your car is a DOHC aka an SL2, SC2, or SW2 then you have an MP7 transmission. If you have a SOHC, aka a SL1, SC1, or SW1 then you have an MP6. You need the right transmission for the right motor...DOHC needs the MP7 while the SOHC needs the MP6.

On top of that, you need the correct gear ratios which changed over the years. Your '97 CANNOT use a '98-'02 transmission. It must be 1991-1997 if it is an MP7 or 1993-1997 if it is an MP6.

Otherwise the PCM will not shift the wrong transmission.

You can go to a junkyard and get a new airbag for the car, it will have all of the connections in it to make it work. Depending on where you live, there are several u pull it places that will be exponentially cheaper than the ones which just hand u the part.

yes, change the filter and use proper fluid and level. filter might not be a stocking item at parts store. After you changed, pull negative battery term overnight to reset trans logic memory. May also be servo pack if it has one (does it make a short buzzing sound when going into gear?) they get clogged too as in a Chrysler transmission.

SOURCE: I have a 01 saturn SC2 (auto). When i put it in park, the RPM's rev up high, and dont go back down until i put it into gear. Any ideas what this could be?

Stuck throttle linkage or bad throttle position sensor. Also possible is an air leak on the Intake manifold. What happens is that you allow a certain amount of air to come into the engine when the throttle cable is pressed. But if you have an air leak, additional air is coming in the engine and it is like you have the throttle opened further.

You should have the engine shut off and then look at the throttle cables and work the controls. They should operate easily and shut smoothly. If they do not work smoothly there is a problem.

You also can check the gaskets on the intake manifold by using an old spray bottle and mist water onto the seams of the top of the engine while it runs. If the RPM changes or the engine dies, you have found a gasket to fix or tighten.

The engine should not idle so fast as to cause you to ride the brake hard to stop the vehicle. Autozone, Advance, or Oreilys autoparts will scan your car for free. Sometimes they are reluctant if the "Check" light is not on, but revving up may spur them to help you.
