the 2.3 and 3.1 engines need to drop oil pan.for the 3.3 engine you have to remove timing chain cover.you have to remove oil filter adapter the pressure regulator valve and the valve spring.then remove oil pump cover to oil pump screws remove cover remove oil pump gears.when installing another new oil pump lubricate the oil pump gears with clean engine oil pack the pump cavity with petroleum jelly.torque oil pan cover screws to 97 inch lbs which would be 11 ft lbs torque.oil filter adapter plate 24 ft lbs.
the oil pump is on the crank behind the balancer and timing chain cover:
REMOVAL
1. Remove the timing chain. 2. Remove the oil pan. 3. Remove the three (A) oil pump screen and cover bolts and the (B) oil pump screen and cover. 4. Remove the two oil pump bolts and the oil pump.
INSTALLATION
1. Clean and inspect the mating surfaces. 2. Install the oil pump and loosely install the two oil pump bolts. 3. Install the oil pump screen and cover and install the three oil pump screen and cover bolts. 4. Install the timing chains. 5. Install the oil pan.
OIL PUMP IN THE OIL PAN.YOU HAVE TO REMOVE OIL PAN TO REPLACE OIL PUMP.IF YOU HAVE 4.6L ENGINE YOU HAVE TO REMOVE FRONT TIMING CHAIN COVER AND TIMING CHAIN.REMOVE OIL PAN.REMOVE THREE BOLTS AND THE OIL PUMP SCREEN COVER TUBE AND REMOVE OIL PUMP.YOU NEED TO SUBMERGE NEW OIL PUMP IN CLEAN ENGINE OIL TO PRIME IT.
M62 ENGINE TURN OFF RADIO FIRST. YOU NEED TO INSTALL A MEMORY SAVER BEFORE DISCONNECTING NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. TO KEEP FROM LOSING PCM MEMORY. TO REMOVE OIL PUMP.YOU NEED TO LOWER OIL PAN.REMOVE THE LEFT AND RIGHT ENGINE MOUNTS AT THE BOTTOM.REMOVE POWER STEERING PUMP AT THE HOLDER.REMOVE OIL PIPES AT THE POWER STEERING PUMP ALSO ON AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, REMOVE BANJO BOLT FOR THE OIL RETURN PIPE FROM THE OIL FILTER AT THE OIL PAN.REMOVE THE MOUNTING BOLT ON THE SPROCKET FOR THE OIL PUMP AND REMOVE THE SPROCKET ALONG WITH THE CHAIN,REMOVE 3 OIL PUMP MOUNTING BOLTS AND REMOVE THE OIL PUMP.REMOVE THE OIL PIPES OUT OF THE CRANKCASE. BEFORE INSTALLING NEW OIL PUMP, CHECK SEALS ON THE OIL PIPES AND REPLACE IF IT NECESSARY.LUBRICATE THE SEALS WITH OIL AND THE OIL PIPES.CHECK THE SEAL IN THE OIL PUMP AND REPLACE IF NECESSARY, SCREW THE HEXAGON ADAPTER BACK INTO THE OIL PUMP UNTIL IT STOPS.INSTALL OIL PUMP AND 2 RIGHT SIDE OIL PUMP MOUNTING BOLTS .TORQUE BOLTS 14 - 17 FT LBS. POSITION THE CHAIN ON THE PUMP AND SPROCKET AND INSTALL THE SPROCKET.TORQUE BOLT TO 35 FT LBS VERIFY THAT THE CHAIN IS POSITION CORRECTLY. ADJUST THE CHAIN SAG TO 0.315 - 0.472 INCHES 8 - 12MM BY TURNING THE HEXAGON ADAPTER IN THE OIL PUMP, THEN INSTALL THE LEFT SIDE MOUNTING BOLT. INSTALL OR CONNECT THE FOLLOWING. INSTALL BANJO BOLT FOR THE OIL RETURN PIPE FROM THE OIL FILTER AT THE OIL PAN, INSTALL THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND CONNECT THE OIL LINES IF EQUIPPED.INSTALL LOWER OIL PAN, INSTALL THE ENGINE OIL.INSTALL THE NEGATIVE BATTERY.
Install oil pump. During installation slowly rotate pump body to ensure driveshaft-to-pump rotor shaft engagement.
Hold the oil pump base flush against mating surface on No.5 main bearing cap. Finger tighten pump attaching bolts. Tighten attaching bolts to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) torque.
Hello, the oil pump can be removed by removing all the 10mm size bolts on the pump housing, it is not necessary to remove the oil pan or anything else. The oil pump pulley can be removed by taking off the 12mm nut then pull the pulley off and the seal can be replaced.
Remove oil pan, making sure to drain oil first. Remove oil pump attaching bolts. Lift off oil pump and withdraw oil pump drive shaft.
INSTALLATION;
Prime the new oil pump by filling either the inlet or outlet port with engine oil. Rotate the pump shaft to distribute oil within the pump body. Insert oil pump drive shaft into block dwith the pointed end facing inward. The pointed end is closest to the pressed-on flange. Place oil pump into position with a new gasket and install attaching screws. Tighten the screws to 15-22 foot pounds of tourque. Clean and install the oil pump inlet tube and screen assembly with a new gasket. Tighten the bolts, then replace the oil pan.
Oil Pan;
Clean of any debris and replace gasket. Fit the oil pan bolts and tighten in two steps. Start from the rear/left hand side and tighten first, then tighten the bolt in the front/right side. Alternate from rear to front, working from back to front and front to back.
Why do you want to replace the oil pump? I am asking this question for good reason. Engines that have worn bearings will have low oil pressure, and replacing the pump will not solve this problem. If you are replacing the pump because of low pressure, then you really need to consider correcting the cause of the low pressure. To replace the pump, you need to remove the oil pan from the bottom of the engine, which will likely involve raising the engine. Once the oil pan is off, you can readily remove and replace the oil pump.
This Depends on a 2 Details, ENGINE Size 4by4 or NOT. Most are Fairly Simple Once the Oil Pan has been Removed and the OIL PAN is Normaly the HARDEST Part of it
AFTER OIL PAN REMOVAL
Remove the oil pump. Refer to Oil Pump, Pump Screen and Deflector Removal.
A loose screen or pipe assembly can result in an air leak and loss of oil pressure. For more information, refer to Oil Pump Clean and Inspect.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE .
Install the oil pump and the oil deflector. Do not reuse the oil pump drive shaft retainer (4). During assembly, install a NEW oil pump driveshaft retainer. Refer to Oil Pump, Pump Screen and Deflector Installation.
Install the engine oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement
