2002 Hyundai Accent weird noise

I recently (today) got my car 'fixed' at my local mechanic. They changed the rocker cover gasket due to an oil leak, flushed the auto transmission and replaced a CV boot. Since doing this the engine revs really high while in park and makes a weird rubbing grinding (kinda like a loose belt noise) when at low revs and the accelerator is pressed. Any ideas? feel like something might be loose or not done properly during the service. Thanks

SOURCE: 2002 Hyundai Accent Problem

first thing i need to know is did the timing belt break?
second is are you sure you aligned the timing marks and after the belt tensioner was tight you rechecked to make sure the timing stayed where you had it.
next step would be a compression check to if a valve was bent whenchanging the belt
i have seen this happen and this engine is an interferance engine.
later paul

SOURCE: Replace oil pan on my Hyundai accent 2004

You can try to re torque the bolts before you drop the pan and re place the gaskit if that is where your leak is coming from. Good luck and hope you don't have to drop the oil pan.

Leaks oil from rocker cover. repaired 3 times. is this a common fault? what is the solution?

The rocker cover will leak oil..............

1. If the rocker cover has been damaged due to poor mechanical fitment and is no longer perfectly straight; or
2. The rocker cover bolts are not torqued evenly at the correct ft/lbs specification; or
3. If the rocker cover bolts have been excessively torqued in which event the cover will distort and the gasket will be excessively compressed; or
4. The gasket is in poor condition and needs to be renewed; or

5. The gasket fitting is sloppy done in which event you can assume the cover will not have been properly fitted either.

I would be buying a new rocker cover (or a straight used one) before doing the next repair because your original is probably deformed now and will likely never seal properly.

2004 Cavalier broken rocker arms after head gasket repair.

Rocker arm issues are common in that car. They can happen without any reason. This is not going to be cheap to look at. When the head was repaired it had to be removed. The timing chain might not have been properly tensioned. That would cause the timing chain to slip and then you have pistons slapping valves and spark plugs. This cause rocker arms and pushrods to bend or break and also can damage pistons.

Oil leak from rocker cover

It is most probably the rocker cover gasket. This is enough to install, you just need to source the correct part from your local parts store or dealer. Remove bolts and rocker cover and replace seal. Ensure on replacement, that you use a sealant that is compatible with oxygen sensors, I use PERMATEX ULTRA-BLU RTV Silicone. That seams to work a treat.

I need to change the oil gasket on my 2002 hyundai accent. how do i do that?

At the top there are 3 of the major ones (in order of importance: camshaft cover seal, top distribution head seal and front distribution seal) - for all of these partial dismantling of the engine is necessary to access and replace them.
Also at the top are about 20 minor ones, all of them require some  removal of parts.
On all of these at least basic knowledge of mechanics is needed to service then. You , since you don't know even what's broken, could do a lot more damage if you go blindly in.
Save yourself the troubles, go to a mechanic, if it's a simple, 1 minute fix part and you're nice he could even do it for a smile.

My hyundi accent is leaking oil form the head cover gasket? what do i need to do to fix it?

You need a valve cover gasket set a metric socket set and some common sense. It's not rocket science to do this job.

Tapping sound in The engine Head

Sounds like lifter noise. The best solution for lifter noise is, change the oil use a good quality oil , i would recommend a synthetic oil or at least a couple of quarts. Then get a bottle of MARVEL MYSTERY OIL this stuff works good add that to you oil when you change it and that should clear up any lifter noise. Another thing that might help use a higher grade gas a couple of times.
