Passanger airbag
SOURCE: 1996 Toyota Corolla
you will need to disconnect batt and wait 5 min, remove airbag fuse then pump brake pedal.this will depower the airbag system.then unplug the airbag you want to deactivate.hook batt back up,reinstall airbag fuse.with an airbag disconnected the airbag light will be on.
make sure you depower the airbag system before unpluging any airbag,or the airbag may deploy causing severe personal injury.work safe.

Sounds like your mechanic installed something per your request. Unfortunately, you have to order the specific part for your vehicle or the light will stay on because the vehicle computer is not detecting a secong airbag.

try checking the fuse box for blown fuses, if all fuses are ok, then the lightbulbs behind the dash need to be changed
