By the time you hear noise from the engine it will be too late for that engine. You may need an oil pump replacement. Have a mechanic check the oil pressure. It's cheaper than replacing the engine.

Chevy 2005 silverado low oil pressure replaced oil sending unit and the cluster no noise from engine

Put a gage in the sending unit hole and see if the oil pump is weak, that is the best way to tell if the engine pump is ok.

I have 1991 Chevy Silverado. When its not warmed up the oil pressure is normal but when it gets hot the oil pressure drops to 0 at idle and in drive but seems to be normal when I am giving it gas.It still...

I have seen this problem, if you have no oil pressure the engine would be rattling, the oil pressure sending unit could be bad, you can buy a oil pressure gauge to test and make sure oil pressure is ok, the sending unit may fix your problem.

2005 Chevy silverado oil pressure guage is on zero , oil level is fine, changed sending unit with no result,

check the filter,, if its bad enough your oil won't pass through it, making it look like your oil is full, but its not moving, Chevy's have whats known as a stepper motor also on the oil gauge,, whats bad about that is if thats gone bad, you have to replace the whole gauge cluster which last time I checked is 250.00

I have a 2006 chevy silverado 5.3L..When in idle oil pressure gauge goes to 80 and when i accelerate ail pressure goes to zero ...is it the oil sending unit?

It could be the sending unit. If the truck is low on oil it will cause something similar. Be sure the oil level is topped up. The only way to be sure it so measure the actual oil pressure at the engine with a proper gauge..

I have a 2007 chevy silverado. It was low on oil. I put 2 quarts in, oil light went off. When I drove it the low oil pressure light came on and also said engine shut down. What could be causing this...

If its reading low oil pressure I would first change your oil and filter.A clogged oil filter will cause your oil pressure to drop. Also remove your pressure sending unit and hook up a direct oil pressure guage to see what your actual pressure is.Its very possible that your oil pump could be bad. Those would be the most probable reasons for low oil pressure. The engine shut down means that your your engine has a fail safe to protect your motor from blowing up.

I have a 1995 Chevy Lumina with the ''Low Oil'' light on.

may be the oil sending unit is bad
may be the oil pump
is there any noise in the engine?
have the oil pressure check at a repair shop to make sure you have enough oil pressure
if it's ok then have the shop replace the switch while they have the old one out to check the pressure

My 2005 Chevy 1500HD when cold there is no oil pressure accoring to the gauge. But after a few minutes of running and then a restart of the engine the oil pressure is bake to normal.

most likely the problem is the oil pressure sending unit or the oil passage to the sending unit is partially plugged, that is unlikely, I would replace the sending unit 1st.
