Unable to open rear drivers side door from inside or out
SOURCE: Rear driver-side door will not open. Neither
the rod or latch has miss aligned, it will be a a hole but you have to take door card off and remove actuator to see if broken or bent, if bent you need to free up the door lock

It sounds like the rod that connects from the outer door handle to the release latch has come off. There are usually plastic clips on each side of the rod that keeps the rod connected. One of those clips has probably broken. I've seen cars that people have tried to use a Slim Jim on door locks to unlock the door break those plastic clips.

sounds like the inside handle is broken it is a easy fix, unfortunately the handle for a BMW is normally a dealer part which will make it kind of expensive for a cheap piece of plastic.
